Why Do You Use ATS?

Hi All,
Someone asked me the other day (or maybe I was thinking about it, I can't remember!) why I use ATS?

I couldn't realy answer straight away, and everything came out as mumbles. I had a think about it though.

Personally I feel like Im learning the truth when reading topics on ATS. Not neceserily everything I read i take to be true, but I feel like at least im reading more info than you would reading the same thing in the newspaper.

What I use the site mainly for however is for help. There is alot of knowledge here at ATS from a big range of people. I checked the demographics (link at the bottom of the home page I think), and saw what a great range of people use the site, and am happy to say nearly all of you are very helpful.

I like to see people help people too. A few people stand out (AlwaysQuestion) being one, who always try to inform people about a range of topics, and are always sincere in their posts and try and source information for people and i think that it's great!

I liek to socialise using the site as well. I always check up and read certain users posts and topics to see how their feeling, you can always pick up if people seem happy or down and out in the way that they write their post. A day just dosn't seem complete unless i log in and join other like minded people, especially after a long day mixing with people who arn't realy interested on some of your biggets passions.

So Enough About me, what about you?

I have read a few of the threads about personality types here, and we all seem to be majority the same (INFJ I Think), but I bet there are some people who use the site for other things, such as just flexing their mind alittle bit or delibratly trying to teach somthing or prove somone wrong.

Ive read a few articles in New Scientist about people who uses forum sites and chat rooms alot, and they seem to indicate that 'we' are not socially connecting enough, and it can have halmful consequences.

Personally i feel more socially connected using the site, is that a bad thing!?

i use this site because it's nice to get all the 'important', imo, news here with no commercials ... i never watch the news on television ... the internet is the place with the most range of different articles, and varying opinions ... and i think ATS is a good place for them to come together for intelligent discussion ...

to me ATS is my CNN (for the most part)

News..i join the other boards and discuss topics concerning them,but my main focus is on getting news before and usually less meddled with than i would on tv.

Unfortunately our society has labeled people that think outside of the box as "crazy" But if you look back in history you will find some of the brightest minds came from people that thought outside the box.

Todays society is more interested in idolizing people rather than thinking for themselves and having a self conviction of what they believe in, if you really think about it, it is really sad. I believe that ATS brings the change of the norm that people in our modern soceity have become accustomed to, people come out with what they believe in and talk about it openly.

If you think about it the majority of stuff on here you would not have an everyday conversation with people getting deep into the subject because they would think you were crazy, society as a whole has taught people to think inside the box.

I guess the point I am trying to make is that his site shows me that not everyone in this world is a sheep. What draws me here is the hope I see here for humanity. Everywhere I look I see people that are more worried about what clothes to wear, whats in style according to celebrities, whats going on in other people's lives or what time the show 24 is on. Here people are not afraid to say what is on their mind.

I would love to just talk in person to some of the people on here, because I know it will be a deep conversation, also I feel this is something that is slowly eroding from our society, we would rather talk about who we think should win American Idol, or can you believe what that this person is seeing so and so now.

Are you serious? Evolve!!

Anyways, that was my little rant, thanks to everyone that contributes to this wonderful site!

Very well said.... I like ATS for it's diversity and for having some truly outstanding, intelligent and deep members too.

I came here because every time I did a search it brought me to a link to this site so I joined. I have found more information on here and I enjoy the topics and conversations. It's nice to have a place where you can chat with others who have the same views and even the ones that dont you still get to have some pretty decent conversations with them as well. It's nice to see what people think and how they think it. It's also nice to see so many things on here that you normally wouldnt see in the news.

to make sure u guys are the crazy ones .. and not me ... thanx guys for your service

I come here because I believe that not EVERYTHING I read here is b.s, so I try and keep and open my and prepare myself for anything....as best I can.

Kdial1... Brilliant. Exactly what I wanted to hear. You Know I only have one or two people in the world I can have deep conversations with (kinda sad maybe) but here I can talk about anything and at least someone will grace me with a reply.

And i feel the reason for this is exactly what you said, we idolise meaningless celebrities (wasn't there a survey done where over 80% of teenage girls said they wanted to be just like Paris Hilton when they grow up!?) and read articles in newspapers and magazines tht are absaloutly insignificant, never mind the TV programmes that are broadcast all day everyday.

Il admit, I was like that to some extent... but I've slowly grown out of that and I can sya im ever so glad I did.

Excellent point, I feel the same, old posters, new posters, it doesnt' matter, you WILL get a reply, not a lot of forums can boast that.

I think ATS is the place to be myself. So many peoples opinions and personalities make this place one of the most intriguing places on the net. I appreciate the fact I can come here, and even if I may not agree with a topic I know I am still welcome to to share my opinion. We all keep each sharp and also are able to see ideas and thoughts from all over the world on controversial issues. This is the #1 Conspiracy Think Tank on the net in my opinion and I enjoy being a part of it.

The problem is there seems to be alot of government people here now. If you go into a thread and tell the truth, it easily gets washed away by people talking all over the place.

There are bound to be people here from the government. Shame that but they are everywhere today are they not. I stay away from alien threads because of this.

This used to be a good board, but i still like it, to a degree.

In Soviet Russia, you don't use ATS...ATS uses YOU!

For my second line, I tend to read thing here a day or more before I hear about it via the mass media and sometimes a week before it's printed on the front page...sometimes even AS things are happening like that whole debris about to hit the space station deal. ATS-ers were all over that action instantly.
As crazy as it is, I like this place and the free thinkers it tends to attract.

My response pretty much mirrors most that have been given.

It almost feels like this is the news channel of the common man before it is filtered through the MSM.

The one aspect I have not understood... why is the chat function not taken more advantage of?

Most people will sit and refresh a page over and over waiting for a new post to make a response too.

With the chat function, the discussions could be had in a real-time environment... is it because with posts, they are always there (unless edited out by the poster) and it adds more to the finality of the words we choose?

Just something I have wondered about for awhile.

My real life friends sometimes tell me I have a gloom and doom mindset because of my ideas of human being and the future... but after each visit ATS I am sure I am very normal and the world is full of people more nuts than me

How can you tell that the government uses the site alot? I mean it seems quite reasonable that some do but I can't see Ive ever seen a post and thought that the author could be a government employee.

I wish I could use the chat function but it has never worked for me! Never asked a mod about it but I think I will just to see how many people use it and what it's like.

I find interesting stories and interesting people here.
Even though I think (I am sure about it actually) that this site and it's owners are a part of some NSA or FBI or something, and one of the purposes of this site is to find out who are the bad guys (us), a put them in the database, I can't stop coming here - no other site offers news and interesting information like this one.
My favorite forum was (and still is) "Fragile Earth", but I like science and survival also.

Whatever happens, you can come here and see, in most of the cases, what REALLY happened.
