Her basic premise was that OP was wrong for harboring what I though was a reasonable concern. Further in the thread, OP disagreed with her.

My prediction was right. In subsequent posts, she demonstrated her own cynicism about men in general. When I pointed this out, I was penalized 1000 points.

I see her as making suggestions to the OP on her own life experiences and you appeared to take them as a generalization against men. The OP preferred to not use the suggestion but that doesn't lessen any of the opinion that she shared and certainly doesn't mean that the OP disagrees with her or that should he disagree, mean that she is incorrect in her opinions. I've been in relationships and have seen many that she describes to a tee....

Her opinion is that... she wasn't overbearing...

I don't think you believe her a hater of men but you did use the words... I think that's what happened.... Check out my thread below on hate... may show you what I mean...

Your thread on hate is excessively wordy.

We obviously have very different outlooks on life. I, personally, refuse to concede that all men are pigs and that all women reaction rationally.

Maybe wordy to some but to others it just leaves little to be questioned. If I had made it shorter I would have had questions about certain things. I just covered the bases....

I didn't see anywhere within her posts where she called all men pigs. She gave her opinion as to their mindset, which may not be like my own ideas, but has been shown to be correct by the number of friends that I've talked to that have voiced some of the same sentiments she has given. All women don't react rationally and there you are making a generalization from her comments, where you accuse her of doing earlier, making it seem that she has 'opinionated' herself as all knowing.

She has excellent writing style and is very informed as to the male thought process. Probably due to her working with them and having them share their thoughts in the way she describes, as wanting but knowing they can't touch...

Smart lady there..

Phylum Chordata

We seem to be drifting away from the topic, which is The Rise Of The ATS Invertebrate: or, it takes a spine to be a conspiracy theorist.

Please note that this is not a grievance thread nor an appropriate venue for analyzing other threads, but rather a discussion of a phenomenon SkepticOverlord has noticed involving some of our members.

Anyone who spots trouble is welcome to ALERT the offending post or submit a complaint describing the problem. Disagreements with staff decisions should be resolved via U2U or the complaint system, and never through off-topic commentary or thread derailment.

The AboveTopSecret.com Terms And Conditions Of Use form the basis for all staff actions, and are also the foundation upon which valid complaints should be based.

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

It seems some of us weebles that wobble do fall down.

In an earnest effort to re-direct thread back to OP, may I succinctly suggest my interpretation of the gist thus far for the time challenged. (Loose remembrances vs. strict quotes.)

"If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen."

"Those who live in glass houses, shouldn't cast stones."

"If you can't take it, don't dish it out."

"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than open one's mouth and remove all doubt."

"Do unto others........."

Sorry, brevity is not my most admirable virtue.

Regards............KK

Your "9 out of 10 doctors approve" argument doesn't work with me

Please elucidate us about this "male thought process"

I was trying to demonstrate how it happens.

The discussion always goes downhill whenever someone introduces their personal prejudices, and then has them challenged. It happens too often on this forum, where civil discussion is supposedly encouraged.

While I've read and agree with SO's statement, I'm afraid that most of the people addressed by it probably won't read it.

I am glad to see that the board is continuing on a course of upgrading decorum and bringing out the best in expression of ideas.

Hopefully, through our experiences here, we will better learn fruitful questioning that leads to more intelligent reasoning.

Not only does it take spine to post conspiracy material, it also takes a thick skin to counter remarks in an intelligent fashion, so as to shame the idiocy (when applicable) and maintain the integrity of the proposed hypothesis.

How thick must one's skin become before transforming to a reptilian?

One of the best replies to various arguments have been, "I'm sorry you feel that way..."

On either side of the argument though, I've seen people state where they were correct, but didn't provide any citation or proof.

When you're posting your opinion, that's totally fine, but when you post a fact or statement that you want people to take seriously, then you need to post proof or a citation of some kind that's reputable.

Kinda sad that someone has to remind us how to act civilly though.

I believe its wrong to call someone spineless just because they don't agree with you or they ask for proof. Just my opinion.

As expected and after Im sure, clear thought and dedication to the membership, management reminds us why we are here and why ATS is so valuable to us all.

I note there are quite a few new members or older members who are posting for the first time on the boards. This plus, in my opinion, the increase of derailers in so many of the threads is probably creating an environment where people are more easily angered, sensitive and less thick skinned. I personally decided to leave certain threads alone for a while because I was fraustrated and doing my self no favours.

Thank you for reminding us what is and is not acceptable. Appreciated.

I'll see this thread and raise you this one. Just because you want a heated debate, which is OK, you can't break the T&C in order to accomplish that.

There is also the Terms And Conditions Of Use:

2) Behavior: You will not behave in an abusive, hateful, intolerant, bigoted and/or racist manner, and will not harass, threaten, nor attack anyone.

Distinguishing between what is a personal attack and a mild rebuke is a fuzzy line at times, but an important one to keep in mind.

I don't think you're getting it. You can't insult or harass members. That's your second warn.
