My wife and I saw something similar not too long ago but it was in the nights sky! It looked like lightning kind of but there were no clouds. We saw it too briefly to verify what it was. That happened like 2 months ago and last week I was hanging out with one of my friends outside my house (smoking cigs) and we both saw the same thing... I thought it was weird that I have seen the exact same thing twice on clear nights.

Just like a quick flash of light but with no bolt or anything. It has me really confused as to what it was.
It definatley wasn't lightning, meteors, airplane, helicopter, or anything that I have ever seen.

Funny, but I always thought I was seeing a couple of atoms smashing or something.

I was going to suggest this as a possibility, or more precisely, a sub-atomic particle smashing into something. Brief sparks from such events are visible to the naked eye, as has been shown in experiments, because they do produce THAT much energy (which is pretty mind-boggling). I don't know what the likelihood of seeing such an event in nature should be, but it must have happened to someone at sometime (if not fairly regularly).

I remember once, many years ago, seeing something that freaked me out.
It was maybe about 2:30 AM and I was driving South on a street in the border city of El Paso so naturally I was able to see Mexico off at a distance. I was heading home when all of a sudden the entire sky just lit up for a split second. Seems like most of the brightness occurred right over Juarez Mexico but there was still enough light for me to see the hood of my car for that brief split of a second. I think the light had a slight light green tinge to it as well.

This sounds like either a lightning phenomenon (you don't need rain or even clouds in an area for lightning - and lightning bolts can arc hundreds of miles, even from well over the horizon to strike areas that are clear), or it could have been a largish meteor exploding in the atmosphere. Big meteors exploding in the atmosphere at night can light up entire regions.

Did it look something like this or like this? Those are meteors exploding at night.

I've never seen these flashes of light but I believe those who say it may be retina or eye related problems. The simple answer is often a good choice. I often see or used to see with the older computer monitors and tv's flickers whenever I was chewing on something or eating. I haven't paid attention to notice if I still see that with all the high def technology. I was wondering if the faster frame rates would prevent me from seeing the flickers. I sometimes can see ripples in the air when a ball or other object is moving through the air. I don't always see it but I often have. A couple of times when I closed my eyes, I thought I saw fractal patterns. That was weird. Then after several seconds the pattern changed to a more natural look. I guess we could all be seeing things.

I found this through google when I got curious about a similar experience. Back in 1997 (I think), me and a buddy (around age 11) were in a church while both our mothers were attending a prayer group in the other room, and we both saw these camera like flashes, about 3 or 4 of them. Some were high up in mid air and I remember at least 2 flashing near the altar, very low to the ground. The altar was on a carpeted surface, so I know there was no reflection going on. The whole thing was quick, but there was enough time after the first couple for both of us to make remarks like "whoa what is that?". I have been searching around for other people's experiences like this and I find people trying to explain it with medical or scientific facts, so I thought I'd add mine since it involves more than one person. I think it's not likely that our eyeballs went bad at the exact same moment. I don't know the guy anymore, but if you're out there, I think I supplied enough details in here for you to know who I am, so contact me on here or find me and we both can wonder some more about what the *** those flashes were

I know exactly what you are talking about! I see these small intense flashes of light pretty often. I've had them for as long as I can remember. They increase when there is a lot of spiritual activity going on i've noticed.

I noticed I had this as well some 4 years ago, when I was having an epiphany of sorts in my overall understanding of life etc. I use to see this phenomenon as well with the sparkles in my vision especially when looking at white marker boards and clear blue skies. One day I decided to meditate on this sparkles of light and didn't blink ect and just stared in the blue sky above for 45 minutes and then the light sparkles morphed into a pulsing of purple light and violet light in the sky which made think I was seeing the earth's magnetic field etc. It was intense feeling. But soon as I stopped it was just light sparkles again

Hi, long time reader but never posted much. Figured this would be a good place to ask this question.

Every now and then I see a single tiny (pin point) flash of white light. It's very quick and happens eyes open or closed. It's almost like a tiny camera flash right out in mid air. Sometimes it's off to the left or right side of my vision....sometime more to the center. I've seen these for as long as I can remember. I've always had great vision so I've never been to an eye doc in order to ask about it. Anyway, something tells me it's not vision related as I see them sometimes when my eyes are closed. Any clues?

this is a sign of benediction or rising of a Kudalini Awakening.. many people experiencing this have other symptoms like wooshing sounds or buzzing or chirping sounds in their ears...
seeing ribbons of colors in the air...
flashes of lights..

check out these threads -
Anyone See Bright Flashes Of Light During Meditation / Kundalini Yoga?

kundaliniyogasite.info...

www.kundalini-gateway.org...

one very important thing to note is this... that kundalini is not specific to hinduism (the religion where the name comes from) .. it has it's parallels in ALL religions... the blessing of the holy spirit... sushumna.. ascension.. etc....

I'm in the computer field as well. I've seen these little spark/flashes since childhood even before I got into the field.....so I don't think it's related. Or is it? Maybe the computers are talking to us (joke). Curiously strange nonetheless.

It seem like I've been seeing them a lot more lately. And by "seeing" I don't mean visually either. It happens mostly when my eyes are closed but also happens with eyes open. I've been seeing blueish sparks too.

I feel like some of the replies here accurately describe the effect and some do not. This little flash is by no means a show stopping lightning bolt flash of light in the sky or out of body experience or anything like that. Imaging looking up at the sky at night and seeing NO stars. Then, you just see 1 star blink on for a split second, without being bothersome or interrupting what your are doing in the least....that's what it's like for me.

I was researching 'visions of very quick bright flashes' when this website crossed my path and finding it is like coming home!

I live in South Africa and for about 2 weeks now I have been seeing these very fast, very bright flashes in front of my eyes varying from none at all to about 5 times a day during various activities, indoors and outdoors, during different moods. The first time I was not quit sure that it really happened; it was so quick.

On Saturday night last week I was in the kitchen when it happened twice. My daughter (11) came from her room to tell me she saw a very quick very bright flash. At first she did not believe it but then it happened again.

Yesterday we were driving in the car when I saw it again and my husband saw it for the first time. Exactly like us he said that it was so fast that at first he was not even sure it happened.

Please, has anyone experienced this?

I have seen similar.. Once way back in 1997, me and a friend where in his room together, he is very spiritual sort of person, has crystals and the whole lot. It was pretty dark and at one point we saw a spark of light in the air nearby to us and we both definitely saw it... It did seem almost like an atomic collission or something, who knows maybe some energy from a far-out source like a pulsar could cause this to happen occasionally ?

Pretty perculiar though. There is a second time where i had a similar experience years later indoors.. Very quick like a camera flash. I don't know if it's an illusion in my eye, I know if I'm seeing something and there are shadows and i have a good idea of what the illusion of it looks like and have ruled that out.

So you all, are not alone!!

I have this and saw a specialist , I had bleeding in my eye. You have to be careful for a detached retina.

Definitely warrants a doctor visit.
Google detached retina , you can learn a lot. That's what prompted me to call a specialist , and I thought I had eye strain!

Good luck.

Thanks for posting.

The interesting thing is that none of us 3 have seen it for about at least 3 weeks now. And then just yesterday my daughter and I saw it again together.

For me this cannot be a physical condition as the chances of my daughter and I seeing it at the exact same time after a long period of nothing is very remote.

We remain baffled, but not alone!

There is always this, but unless you are an astronaut I'd rule it out.

There is absolutely nothing supernatural or paranormal about eye floaters. Other people have already covered what they are and what causes them in this thread. There are very common, about 7 out of 10 people experience them at some time or another.

You people need get your bloods magnesium levels checked pronto. Vegetables today have very little magnesium which is needed by the body to break down other minerals including potassium. After a couple weeks on magnesium supplements the white flashes I experienced totally disappeared.

This is pretty accurate.

I got a small copper shaving in my eye testing some scissors that could mythically cut a penny in half. I saw these flashes for over 6 months.

Edit: It was super small btw. Dust sized....it was neat to look at with their eye-croscope thing.
