I figured there would be a post on this, and I did search. I was unable to find it. If there is can someone please direct me to it.

I found this very interesting. This just does not smell right.

Defence to investigate Fitzgibbon claims
DEFENCE chiefs have ordered an investigation into claims departmental officials conducted covert inquiries into their minister Joel Fitzgibbon.

The unnamed officials reportedly investigated the defence minister's association with a Chinese-born Sydney businesswoman and whether it constituted a security risk.

Defence force head Angus Houston and departmental secretary Nick Warner have ordered the inquiry today.

Department denies spying on minister
DEFENCE secretary Nick Warner says he's seen nothing to suggest his department was covertly investigating its minister Joel Fitzgibbon. "I have seen no information to suggest there is any substance to any of the allegations" he said.

Defence Minister Joel Fitzgibbon confirms Helen Liu paid for trips to China
DEFENCE Minister Joel Fitzgibbon has confirmed he took two trips to China paid for by Chinese-born businesswoman Helen Liu that he failed to declare to parliament. Mr Fitzgibbon has been at the centre of a political storm involving his relationship with his department following claims department officers spied on his relationship with Ms Liu.

Business associates of Ms Liu, who travels between Sydney and China, also acknowledged a strong friendship between her and Mr Fitzgibbon. ASIC documents show several of her deregistered Australian companies had Chinese Government-owned enterprises as shareholders.

And then there is our PM saying:

AUSTRALIAN Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has called on the United States to work to integrate China into global governance, calling the Asian power a "huge opportunity". Mr Rudd, a Mandarin-speaking former diplomat, said during his visit to Washington that China should feel it has a stake in world bodies, most notably the International Monetary Fund where its voting power is now minimal.

(He speaks Mandarin too...)

I am very interested in other people's opinion on this. Am I reading too much into it? Seems fishy!

As I was only saying to my girlfriend tonight, I think he is - or is suspected of being a Chinese Spy. Let's face it, you don't get an investigation of this caliber for a few 'gifts' and free air tickets.

There's something rotten in Denmark!

I believe there have been plenty of back room deals done with China since the Keatings days. But why this guy and why now?
Good thread OP.

Not sure if anyone saw the vote for today on the nine msn page but it was

"Should China be able to buy Australian companies?"

Aussies say no

14829 YES
81625 NO

Seems like China wants to own the world.

Just a bit more this morning.

Helen Liu was investigated for links to Chinese Governemt
THE woman at the centre of national security issues involving Defence Minister Joel Fitzgibbon was under investigation for her links to the Chinese Government. Intelligence officials had noted wealthy Chinese-born, Sydney-based businesswoman Helen Liu's contact and activities with senior officials in the Chinese government, Fairfax reports. The contacts were picked up in normal monitoring of Chinese activity in Australia, the reports say.

Here's a new article from today:
au.news.yahoo.com... n/

And there's a poll at au.yahoo.com... asking whether Joel Fitzgibbon should be sacked.

In my opinion the whole Labor government is being controlled by China. Think about it, Kevin Rudd speaks fluent Chinese and he lived in China for a long period of time. They're also allowing a lot of Chinese investment in Australia, especially in strategic interests e.g iron ore mines. The Labor government has also being trying to put through legislation allowing them to control/censor the internet. Now we find out that our defence minister is being bankrolled by the Chinese government (indirectly through Ms Liu).

I think it's the same with the Democrats in the US, at least Hillary anyway. Bill Clinton received donations from the Chinese and as a result turned a blind eye to them stealing advanced tech from the US. Hillary also was receiving campaign donations from the Chinese, remember that fundraising scandal involving the fugitive Norman Hsu?

P.S I think we're onto something BIG here...

The plot thickens!

Helen Liu 'spy' storm widens
THE Chinese-Australian woman at the centre of a top-level espionage inquiry has met both Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and former PM John Howard, it has been revealed. Mr Rudd is believed to have attended a private dinner in Brisbane in 2004, where he met and talked at length in Mandarin with Helen Liu.

How deep does the rabbit hole go??

My personal opinion is that China has the Australian Government well and truly penetrated.

Prime Minister Rudd even looks Chinese. And now he is going to bat for China with Washington.

Wouldnt suprise me in the least if China bought the election for Rudd.

China is all over us, has been for years. They own a lot of this country and they will buy more and more in the years to come.
