They're private security guards, already on patrol, but they may soon have the powers of Chicago Police officers.

As CBS 2 Chief Correspondent Jay Levine reports, the private security officers now on patrol on the city's Far South Side are expected to have their powers expanded as part of a citywide ordinance now being prepared.

Is this the start of something? I just don't like what I am reading here. Private security endowed with the power of law enforcement? Could this perhaps be the beginning of???
In an instance of martial law, will private security be put in place, over fear of local law enforcement "rebelling"?

Some cops cant even restrain their use of power, now there are going to be people that are not even real cops with all the power !??

They will abuse the power.

Great, really really great.

how much are they being paid?

Blackwater got paid so much more than troops.

This sounds like the start of something very scary!

gotta love it ... turning rent-a-cops into cops ...

what has this world turned into?

Not to disrespect anyone making a living, but... This opens more than one door in which all will lead to trouble/problems... I have seen first hand "badge heavy" security officers that have no right being in that position.

"Next thing you know, guns are drawn, and you have a real problem," Levine posited.

Now second "scenario" brings in more "professional" security... Time to keep our eyes open!

In CA where you have to take tests and undergo a background check, the short answer is NO, security guards cannot act as cops.

Ticket writing and acting as peace officers are two different things. There are security guards in CA who have ticket writing authority at malls that was given to them by the owner of the malls.
