AIG bonus payments $218 million

Well, it looks like all the outrage over the AIG bonuses was misplaced because, as it turns out, we were outraged over the wrong numbers. I saw reports on the news today that people were protesting outside the private homes of the AIG execs, if people are that angry now, what is going to happen when they find out they were lied to yet again?

I knew Obama was going to have his hands full once he took office but it's getting ridiculous, I wonder what he's going to do.

Here's more info on the updated bonus stats:

The documents show that bonuses of at least $1 million were paid to 73 people, and five received more than $4 million.

I'm surprised, where's all the rage I was reading in the other AIG bonus threads?

Maybe people don't realize what this means, AIG under reported how much they were giving in bonuses, it took a subpoena for them to actually tell the truth.

I think its because people are more angry over the fact that it happened than they are at the actual amount of money involved. $165 million...$218 million...its a lot of money either way.

I'm more interested in seeing the reaction once the public as a whole realizes that billions upon billions of these bailout dollars went overseas, never to return. Plus, some of the remaining funds were funneled through these failed corporations into healthy ones that were not supposed to be bailout recipients.

The whole thing stinks to high hell from top to bottom.

What I find most alarming in this entire matter, is how willing many of you seem to allow the government to to make laws that target a very specific group of citizens who, as far as I know, haven't broken a single law? What is it in the past performance of our Federal Government that would lead you to believe that this is a direction we, as citizens, want to pursue? That we want to give them this kind of power?

You know what is happening here don't you? We are allowing our government to trample on the Constitution out of fear. Have we not learned a single thing over the past 8 years?

What is most disturbing is that many of those leading the charge to give the Feds the ability to do what is, beyond a doubt, unconstitutional, were among the loudest voices of protest when the Patriot Act was enacted. Does anyone else see the hypocrisy in this?

The Bush Administration used our collective reaction to the 9/11 attacks to push through legislation that, under most circumstances would have been cause for protests bordering on revolt. The ever-courageous inhabitants of the Capitol Buildings, reacting to pressure and a strong aversion to anything resembling leadership, were more than willing to pass the legislation without even reading it.

Sound familiar?

Was there cause for action? Yes absolutely. We had been attacked and clearly there were holes in the way we gathered and processed intelligence. Rather than take a scholarly approach and offer up ideas and honest, intelligent debate of same, they took the easy way out and used the emotion of the moment to do what they do best; pretend to take meaningful action without having the slightest idea whether said action will be effective in actually addressing the problem(s).

Behind the scenes, what was actually happening was the political party in power opportunistically forcing their own agenda down our throats during a very short window of opportunity.

That, my friends, is exactly what is happening here. The Democrats, especially those with socialist leanings, sense a chance of a lifetime...or at least of a generation. What would have been incomprehensible before we began fearing for our economic lives, is now not quite so unpalatable. In fact, it seems quite appetizing for some.

Think long and hard before we give the Federal Government this kind of leeway for it could be aimed at you next time. And when it is, it will already be too late.

I am disgusted that too many of my fellow citizens only come to the defense of the Constitution when the attack on it comes in the form of ideas with which you personally disagree. What the **** has happened to us? I used to actually believe that this was a great country because the citizenry demanded it be.

Now it seems we are nothing more than a nation of self serving, spineless lemmings, willing to swallow anything as long it doesn't directly inconvenience us.

I don't know who you're aiming that rant at, but I am 100% against this taxation and punishment bullcrap that's coming out of DC right now for the exact reasons you discuss. And you're also right about the fact that the Obama administration is whipping up this frenzy in order to push its own radical agenda (wait until you hear what they're going to propose tomorrow)...despite the fact that his boy Geithner is right at the center of this scandal and that Obama himself rammed it down the country's throat.

It might be, because your Original Post is suggestive that Obama might be a solution as opposed to part of the problem.

Many of us don't see the Republicans or the Democrats as being either helpful, honest, or blameless in this mess. Especially since the Congress has been controlled by Democrats for well over two years now.

The Obama administration is not only riddled with Clinton Administration holdovers but also has the same number of Council For Foreign Relations Members that they typical Republican administration has. Further most of this mess is from the explosion of the bubble that Gore's virtual economy theories, promoted by Clinton and then adopted wholesale by Bush created.

I personally view everyone involved in Party Politics regardless of the party it actually is, to just be part of the same homogenous corrupt machine, whose only difference between one another is fostering the finger pointing arguments to get the populace to foolishly look across the aisle instead of looking at the entirety of just who, when, where, and what for is actually all involved with the mess.

What's Obama going to do? What he has been doing so far. Try to cast the blame elsewhere while attempting to sell the populace on the idea, the shoveling more money to the thieves and crooks who own and run are government are warranted and somehow helpful, at some later date and place in time.

Why be outraged over it, when you are practically begging him to be personally sold on the deception.

In my humble oppinion it's all about how our government does business, not the latest leading face and the duck, dodge and weave public face put on it for the consumption of the maninstream media and the viewing masses.

We like to save the outrage for people who want to be part of the solution instead of wishing that part of the problem isn't one!

Thanks for the post. Maybe my dinner will overcook and burn and I can feign outrage for you later!
