Saddam says the shuttle was gods punishment, Bush says that we have god on our side in our war against Iraq.

Saddam says it and its a religous fundementalist rant.
Bush says it and he's simply justifying our ritious indignation and stirring up national pride.

can't see any evidence saddam is more of a threat to the rest of the world than any number of other countrys.
considerably less I'd have thought given that we know of other countrys with WMD's and so far haven't found any in Iraq.

add to that the fact that he's under constant surveilance I'd say his threat is pretty minimal.

especially when considered next to the threat of a U.S. attack on any country who's politics differ from its westernised concept of democracy.

I think I've stated countless times that the base principal of democracy is that it must be accepted as one.

hence one cannot blow up another country simply because you don't believe its democracy is as effective as yours.

You don't see any evidence because you prefer not to see it. You also might not feel threatened in your home country, but in mine, we cannot afford to allow the chemical/biological weapons that he is known to have and has not proven to have gotten rid of to be slipped into this nation and make more orphans.

As far as I'm concerned, any secondary benefit to the world by the removal of Hussein is fine, but the primary concern of the government of this nation had better be the safety of its own citizens. We pay these taxes, therefore we get first dibs.

While the Iraqi citizenry will no doubt benefit from the removal of this tyrant, that, too, is secondary to the primary goal this government better have.

And, while oil companies might benefit from the removal of Hussein (that is still yet to be determined) that is also secondary.

As far as any other threat to the world, if it puts the world in a safer place that we later go and crush North Korea, for example, that is also secondary to the fact that they may be a threat to this nation. Furthermore, I am not in favor of attacking North Korea unless the evidence shows that they are indeed a definite threat to this nation. If they are a threat to Germany or France, let them handle the problem as they intend on letting us handle this problem that we face. Once, however, we dtermine we must take action, sgut up and get out of the way. Or, go be a human shield if you like!

I read somewhere that 'The greatest single magic trick/propaganda act is how George W. Bush managed to shift US public sentiment from sorrow at the hands of Sep. 11 terrorists to anger and revenge-lust agasint Saddam Hussein'... however, he has done this legally, pursuing the issue through both American houses, where your trigger-happy oil tycoon politicians have pushed it through, albeit legally.

But this is not the case in my home town - Australia. Our Prime Minister John Howard is so keen to be a lapdog or deputy sherriff to George W. Bush that he has already sent troops to the gulf under the guise of war against terrorism. Howard fears putting the war through our House of Representatives and Senate because he knows there will be an uprising to oust him, yet he persists in the madness of sending troops to impending death at the hands of either chemical or nuclear weapons, depending on which propaganda channel you tune into.

The Australian people far from support Howard's pro-war stance, with most polls showing between 60 and 80 percent opposition to a conflict in Iraq. We have no reason to be there, and as history shows Australia have never started a conflict in it's history, being bullied into both World Wars and Vietnam as a result of our alliance to the commonwealth, but now that isn't an issue, with the power resting with the governor-general. Howard is so keen to kill our soldiers it's scary, and it is the reason that he will not be re-elected come election time later this year.

This is pretty much whats happening in Britain too.

Blair seems to be persuing a pro war stance seemingly at odds with his own party the other partys, the national media and the people.

It seems to me that doing so is political suicide if one doesn't have compelling evidence, I'd have thought we would at least have made some up by now.
