I came across this video.

This guy lost his long term memory 20 years ago, and since then he lives in a constant state of the present.

His memory lasts no longer than 7 seconds, and if he is lucky 30 seconds.

I really can't grasp what this must be like...

but please, watch the video.

The only thing about it is that he's probably pretty happy. Ignorance is bliss.

They are making a film about this guy soon... Or a very similar case any way - not watched the clip just yet.

I wonder how many times people he knew (from before the accident - he still has those memories right??) and said 'hey, any chance you got that 10'er you borrowed off me the other day?' Then waited 5 mins and asked the same thing
That could pay £120 per hour

I read about a similar case in a psych class where a guy contracted some sort of virus and didn't know it and ended up in the same situation. It may be the same guy I don't know the book had no pics of him. He did have some of his memories from his past. That would would be a horrible situation to be in.

Just think of how amazing this ability would be. You could watch a movie an infinite number of times and it would be a new movie every time you watched it. Allthough you would need a 3 hour attention span.

I wonder if this is all memories? I'm thinking things like memory of taste and other sensations... Muscle memory as well.

You can't do a lot in 7 seconds... But say for instance he had never eaten a kewi fruit in his life. If he ate one would the distinctive flavour be familiar the next time? Or a totally new experience?

If you watch the vid they said this memory of taste is gone as well. They show him eating chicken and he says is tastes like salad. So each time he eats something it taste differant than it did last time. He never even remembers eating at all. Each time he eats anything it is the first time in his life he has eaten anything from his point of view. I seen a whole show on this man and it is really sad to watch him try to understand what is happening to him.

There is a movie that has been out for a while with Adam Sandler in it. It is his girlfriend who has this problem, every day she wakes up with no memory of the previous day. So what he does is record video of her life so she can watch it every day. I don't remember the name of the movie.

If he cannot remember taste, then how does he remember how to talk?

All i can say is wow! This poor guy.. I think it's amazing he still has his talent for music, as an aspiring composer and conductor (and piano player for 13 years) myself, i just think it is so beautiful that he can still play.
