Responding to two Democratic senators representing outraged private gun owners, the Department of Defense announced last night it has scrapped a new policy that would deplete the supply of ammunition by requiring destruction of fired military cartridge brass.

The policy already had taken a bite out of the nation's stressed ammunition supply, leaving arms dealers scrambling to find ammo for private gun owners.

Mark Cunningham, a legislative affairs representative with the Defense Logistics Agency, explained in an e-mail last night to the office of Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., that the Department of Defense had placed small arms cartridge cases on its list of sensitive munitions items as part of an overall effort to ensure national security is not jeopardized in the sale of any Defense property.

Another blow to the second amendment. This is a back door approach leading to banning guns. Instead of banning the guns the gov't is going after the ammo supply. You can not shoot a gun without ammo it is like bread and water. There is still time to buy badly needed ammo for your own protection from the gov't.

The article you posted is a VICTORY for the 2nd ammendment.

They where going to scrap all military brass but REVERSED their position.

This is great to hear, but the real question that springs to my mind is:
For how long? I wonder what their next approach will be.

That's funny enough.I laughed heartily. I would think that raising the cost of ammunition to a level that most people couldn't afford,would be infringing on second amendment rights. "The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" You are only considered armed when your weapon is loaded. An unloaded hand gun is as useful as a brick,and an unloaded long gun is as useful as a stick.

I'm not very worried though as I've enough ammo to last the rest of my life,and maybe a few others lives as well.

I hope you guys noted that this story was about the DoD changing there policy in response to two DEMOCRATIC Representatives.

It's about time everyone realizes that the NRA and Republicans have been framing the Democrats as anti-gun to siphon-off votes - c'mon wake up!

Sure, there are fringe elements of the Democratic party that are anti-gun, but it is a small minority, and most of them are anti-gun in urban settings, where they see high murder rates using guns (gangs) in their urban districts.

Sounds to me like it is time for a few more basement mad scientist to start working on those "ray guns". I remembering hearing a few years back that the feds wanted a chemical to ammo so the powder would go dead after 6 months to a year to prevent people from stock piling it. I have not heard anymore about that as of late. Has anyone else?

I've been buying a little extra ammo for about a year. I saw this coming a while back. Just a few thousand extra rounds. When the cops raid a house for any reason, if they find a gun or more than a box of ammo, they make the person sound like some kind of terrorist.
