2 earthquakes in 2 weeks in melbourne is wierd since we never get earthquakes and are geologically very stable.

i dont think its anything to worry bout, i didnt feel the last one and didnt feel this one either so it cant have been that bad....I was outside when this one hit today......mowing the lawn and still didnt feel anything when people from 50 km further away from me did...figure that out?

Im interested in what Captain Caveman says about under sea volcanoes near Tasmania and Victoria....if tru and confirmed it would be a major situation for the future.

The southern part of australia is connected to Tasmania by one solid tectonic plate under Bass Strait.......if this volcanic activity were to be proven, then that might mean a new fault line appearing and possibly the previously stable tectonic plate Australia sits on may becoming unstable and breaking up?

Hold on, just googled something in relation to the Volcano situation-
www2b.abc.net.au...

The Melbourne Age, 11/04/02 page 6.
Scientists believe a new australian volcano could be in the process of creation after the apparent awakening of a volcano breeding ground off the victorian coast.
Geologists suspect an earthquake that originated 50Km from King Island in february signalled the reawakening of the hot spot, a region in the earths crust where the planet expels some of its internal heat, there are more than 100 hot spots worldwide.
Australias hot spot is several hundred Km wide and lies under Bass strait and parts of Victoria and Tasmania.
Wally johnson a vulcanologist at geosciences australia said that the fact that there were earthquakes taking place in the area means that geologically the hot spot has to be regarded as active even though it hasn't produced volcanic eruptions as such.
He said it could spawn a volcano within 100 years.

Interesting huh? this volcanic field might be larger than expected if we are getting earthquakes on the mainland.

More quakes, I dont like this progress..

There are escalating quakes in europe too..

Qukes in sweeden and denmark
This quake was in an fault-line that goes thru Skåne in sweeden and had an 4.5 to 5 on the R.Scale.

And here, another one, the biggest in the history of Svalbard (Norwegian territory) wich had an 6.5 on the R.scale.
the Svalbard Quake

Plus add the other things that are happening, fireballs, the 'airquakes', are we talking the great biblical signs here ??

Its on the map now

I also saw that this quake was at the same depth and location of the previous one.

Should we be expecting a lagre one anytime soon, whats the deal?

It looks like earthquakes in that area are far from unheard of. I know from living both here in Anchorage and also in Los Angeles when younger that earthquakes of 3.5 and less are often not felt even though they occur all the time. I seldom feel anything under a 4 here.

Check out the link as it has the history of that area.

It's really odd, considering tectonic plates are not located around australia.
