Could Someone Explain This UFO Photo

I am journalist by profession, living in the historic city of Malacca in West Malaysia. Have been a regular ATS visitor for more than a year, going through various topics of interest.

Decided to sign up as need assistance to figure out a phenomenon in the sky recently that I witnessed and photographed.

The incident took place just before dusk at about 6.50pm as I was heading home after covering an assignment. As it had just stopped raining and the skies were clearing when I noticed this bright shimmering light in the sky from my rear view mirror.

I pulled over to have a closer look and was quite taken aback. There was this lone solitary cloud or what looked like a cloud, I assumed. The best to described it is that there seemed to be a tear or hole in the sky that emitted an intense bright light.

Took several shots of it with my G9 Canon before it dissipated. Have been trying to figure out what it and the explaination behind it.





Though I consider myself to be a logical person, I know that there are some things that defy logic.

The edges of it certainly look like a cloud. It's all whispy and fluffy, like a cloud would be.

Sometimes, when the sun is at the right angle to the viewer of the cloud and the cloud, the water particles in the cloud can light up very bright, like in the pictures above. This would be my guess. (this is just a guess btw, I'm no authority on the subject)

The colour does look a bit odd but I'd say that's a Lenticular cloud.

Should be in fragile earth forum but it's just a cloud, I just can't remember the technical name for it.

I does appear to be a lenticular cloud formed just above the solar horizon, giving it its glowing appearance.

But then, if you really feel strongly about it, you could check the atmospherics in your area at the time to see if such a formation was likely. It does look to be quite large.

I cannot do an analysis right now.
However i believe it is just a cloud.

Objects including clouds can sometimes be lit in strange ways compared to other objects.
What i mean and think is the case here is that most things in the photos are in shade since the sun is pretty low.

However this dense cloud is at a height that the suns rays catch up with it.
Hence its much brighter than the rest. The other clouds are just lower...

Although that particular cloud looks like UFO shaped i would think its just from this angle of view.
It would look quite different from other directions as the color would also vary from diferent angle points.

Relax there may be UFOs but this is a cloud as far as i can tell without taking the pictures into photoshop.

I agree lenticular cloud. Very facinating to research. Hit wiki and go from there. Thanks for giving us a chance to look at your great photo.

To me, that looks like a reflection of the sun cast upon the low cloud. The circular nature of it is squashed by the perspective and foreshortening effect of the position of the observer and camera..

my 1st thought was that it was a solar flare.
but after looking at it a 2nd i don't know
star and a flag

I agree it does look like a cloud, but has anyone noticed the little 'blip' that is to the upper right portion of the second picture, directly under the stop light? I cannot tell what it may be, but it adds a bit more to the pics and story. Check it out.
