cigarettes that is.

A lot of people have started buying bags of tobacco and rolling their
own cigs because the price for a pack and cartons has gone up so much.

Depending on which kind you buy.you can buy the equivalent to a carton for about $18 bucks.

Or at least you can until the new Fed tax goes into effect in a couple
of months. They are putting a $25 tax on a pound of loose tobacco!

I'm not promoting smoking or saying not to, just letting those who
buy RYO know what is happening. Better stock up......or.........quit.

here is a link to a site that explains the tax.

Wow... interesting, I knew about the new State and Federal Tax on cigarettes but I did not know they were going to tax "loose tobacco".

This site is for an internet retailer... anyone have a "news" site that explains this. I know quite a few people that are buying the "blanks" to roll their own when the new taxes come out.... if this is true, that plan won't work either.

What I learned in Junior High was this country was founded on God, Tobacco, and Freedom from taxation without representation.

Funny teacher, so now that we've got rid of two of them, it's time for you to go God!!!

This really strikes a nerve with me.

Has anyone seen the commercial with that a$$hole who comes behind all the service places and raises the price takes the money and leaves.

Well the gov't is doing that, smoking is a bad thing to do, but I do it, and it's my choice if I get cancer I will accept the fact it was my fault and noone else's. Should I pay a increasingly higher tax in a Recession, from some Joe in office to nudge then hit me with a baseball bat to stop smoking, while he himself is a SMOKER

Hipocrites, I swear.

My rant is over, looking forward to reading everyone elses.

I've smoked since I was 12 years old. Back then they didn't ask for ID when you purchased cigarettes.

Two days ago I bought five packs of smokes and the bill was $31 dollars and change.

The new federal tax hasn't even kicked in yet.

I quit.

I have these Commit lozengers and some cigars If I get weak.....

Please, everyone ignore me for the next few days or weeks.

I'm just hoping I survive the experience

Well let me give you my two cents on the matter. Much like you I've smoked since my tweens and have quit multiple times, but damn when you're a smoker, and you quit and then you go out for a drink, a smoke seems really good!

Anyway I digress. My point is I would be very happy if a pack of smokes was about 250, EUROS. I would be ecstatic.

The reason? I would never pay that much for smokes, no matter how addicted I was, forcing myself to quit.

Pure and simple.

Long live the increase of cigarette prices!!!

There is always this alternative.

This in from a source for an electric cigarette.

At long last! You can kick the tar and nicotine that keep you addicted to real cigarettes...and keep the satisfaction of smoking!ECigarette looks, feels and smokes just like a real cigarette, but has none of the harmful substances found in real cigarettes. It emits a virtually odorless vapor that simulates actual smoke, but dissipates quickly in the air.

www.ecigarettesusa.com...

I have a friend who is going to try this and see how it goes.
It is expensive but compared to the price of the amount for the
equivalent of how much you would spend on cigs, it might be worth
it in the long run.

I can go all day without a smoke and I'm ok. But, once I sit down at night
at the computer, that is when I really want one.

Way to go NWO!
Raise the tobacco price so high so no one can afford to smoke and since smoke kills a lot of bacteria in the lungs and people will not be likely they will keep the smoking habit, then people will start getting ill much easier from respiratory sicknesses from aerosols, and later all will accept the implantable bio chip that will control our immune system more "efficiently".
I have not believed for a second that banning of smoking and raising of prices had anything to do with the PTB "caring" for our health. They do care alright but not for our well being.

I think they should tax booze big time- whats fair is fair. I dont hurt anyone but myself by smoking, on the other hand, alcohol kills innocent people out in traffic, makes for domestic situations, and is disgusting and a mood altering drug.

It breaks up homes, etc.

My 10 cigs a day doesnt hurt anyone.

As you may or may not know, Indian reservations are sovereign nations, exempt from the laws of the US. They are, literally, nations apart from the US. They have their own laws, government, law enforcement, prisons, etc... If you buy cigarettes on an Indian Reservation today, you pay less because your not paying the State or Federal taxes on them.
I'm wondering if this will still be the case after this tax increase - I'm thinking this will be the loophole for smokers because as I said, Indian Reservations are Sovereign nations in their own right. This may very well be a bonanza for the tribes fiscally. Maybe even bigger than their casinos!

The reservations are a great idea but from what I hear at least here in NY, the party is almost over. They are going to be taxing the cigarettes on the reservations too. As much as I hate to admit this, I do roll my own. There is no way I will pay $7.00 for a pack and over $6 for the first shelf generic and $5 for the really cheap ones! This is just ridiculous.

It also figures money is tight this month so I can't stock up.
There is a smoke shop up the street and I am going to call them tomorrow and see what they have to say about this.

I agree with the previous posts. They should really tax booze, and we all know they really could care less about our health. Ridiculous, that smoking tobacco now costs more than smoking pot. (So I hear from my kids anyways, just to be clear)

Man, this sucks. I started buying Buglers because camels cost an even 5 dollars and I can get a pack of buglers for 2 dollars. I usually only get about 30 cigs.(they come with 40 papers
)I think that I will stock up now, so thanks a good deal for the warning.

i wanted to make athread on this but alas was beaten once again.
i roll my own and the price i pay for now is $12.99 a lb. now i will have to pay another $25 on top of that- so almost $40 with tax
also the tubes are going up close to 2,000% (and no that is not a typo)
i spend $1.39 for a carton of tubes(200) and they told me after april 1st it will be over $20
my gf and i are considering buying as many tubes as we can at the low price and then selling them for $15 a box! that is at least a $13 per box profit!
also i'm going to start growing my own tobacco this summer- if we get enough people who can it would send a message- but it will be the next thing the tyrranists will say you can't do

i think i will have to order some seeds

I also will have to stock up before april 1 before smokes become like guns and everyone is out because everyone is stocking up.

The nice thing is tobacco can be grown as a indoor plant year round.
