If the earth did flip, it wouldn't do it fast enough to flash freeze a dinosaur. It would take millions of years to happen. There is evidence that it happened 800 million years ago, but it hasn't been confirmed yet. The theory is that something of sufficient mass caused an imbalance of the planet, and over the course of millions of years it balanced itself again by putting the weight towards the equator.

Scientists have found evidence that the Earth might have flipped over in the past, completely shifting the orientation of its poles. The theory has been around for years; that a large mountain range or supervolcano might unbalance the spinning Earth. Over the course of millions of years, the Earth would change the orientation of its axis until the object was balanced at the equator again. The scientists found evidence of magnetic grains in layers of rock sediment on the ocean floor that maintain a record of the Earth's magnetic field over millions of years.

"The sediments we have recovered from Norway offer the first good evidence that a true polar wander event happened about 800 million years ago," said Maloof, an assistant professor of geosciences. "If we can find good corroborating evidence from other parts of the world as well, we will have a very good idea that our planet is capable of this sort of dramatic change."

Maloof's team, which includes researchers from Harvard University, the California Institute of Technology and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as well as Princeton, will publish their findings in the Geological Society of America Bulletin on Friday, Aug. 25.

True polar wander is different from the more familiar idea of "continental drift," which is the inchwise movement of individual continents relative to one another across the Earth's surface. Polar wander can tip the entire planet on its side at a rate of perhaps several meters per year, about 10 to 100 times as fast as the continents drift due to plate tectonics. Though the poles themselves would still point in the same direction with respect to the solar system, the process could conceivably shift entire continents from the tropics to the Arctic, or vice versa, within a relatively brief geological time span.

There's nothing unusual about this when dealing with solar winds, the pressures on either side of the Earth are obviously going to be vastly different. Some layers peeling off and shrinking as you can see in the most recent photo of the OP. As the Earth is affected by our Sun you might also like to wonder what affects our Sun.

They just had a documentary on this a few weeks ago,i believe it was on either the science,or discovery channel,and they did say that the core is in fact slowing down. They also said,they didn't know how long this would take. Some say it could be any time now to a few years. I don't think they want to cause public panic. They also said we would experience communication outages by the masses if this gets any worse. The suns radiation will seep through causing many problems. Another theory is that there is a large planetary sized object causing this to happen,but where is it?

Please dont bring the planet x thing here!
Oh well, ok.... if it has any relevance, or relation.
Im open to all theories here.

Then again, man hasn't been around very long as compared to the Earth and Sun and our technology has only been around for about 60 years.

So my guess would be that we human beings have no idea what the Sun, magnetic field or a powerful long duration solar storm could do to our planet and our lives on any given day.

Thank you, that was a vid I was trying to find before. It shows when we were being hit by solar winds etc.

We are in fact getting hit right now, the pic... which isn't coming out here is showing us being hit right now... but you can see what the field is doing now.

You can see on the right side, just out of the way, the red which is hitting us in pressure............................. BUT the picture earlier............... when the field is collapsed - there is no "red" pressure on the right - hitting us............. so still what is going on and why?

Depending on my mood I'll download some from 2003 and see if we can find the same event occurring then too.

I saw how it went down........ like in the pic................. so it will be interesting to see, if this has happened before a few years ago and not just recently.

Due to recently............. I know all kinds of weird things have been going on with the field, but I didn't think.......... this weird............

Also, I stay aware and read various sites of "things that are happening with animals"........... and lots of people have reported some strange things with birds etc............ in California mainly........... but also those whales beachings............. people had suggested the magnetic core was possibly linked to it.............. besides my suggestion and original OP of an Earthquake (which did happen - right by there).............. but could the magnetic field also have played a part?

EDIT: No, the one in Jan. did not cause the field to totally wrap in itself, Yes, it folded some behind the Earth............. but it did not collapse completely, like today.
