NSW is to be the first state to introduce covert search warrants.

They will be issued through the Supreme Court and limited to investigations of suspected serious offences punishable by at least seven years jail.

These offences include the manufacture of drugs, computer crimes, the sale of firearms, homicide and kidnapping.

Premier Nathan Rees said the warrants would be borrowing from commonwealth anti-terrorism legislation.

"If you are a serious criminal in NSW you should not sleep easy,'' Mr Rees said.

"These laws will enable our police force to inspect your home without you knowing."

The new powers will allow for the owners of the covertly searched property to be kept in the dark for up to six months.

How the hell can anyone search your home for up to three years without telling the owner?

This country is now a big brother police state.

That's completely insane.
Who is the retard who introduced that?
And how can they allow it?
Computer crimes?
What if they make a mistake, and its not even you?
They have been searching your home for 3 years, and you didn't even do anything wrong?

One small step for police, one giant leap for the New World Order.

Won't be too long then before they do that here in SA too. Premier Mike Rann appears not to like bikies, and is always referring to them as "terrorists" one way or another. He would love these new laws.

Terrorists and criminals sure seem to be taking away our rights. Seem to be doing TPTB a big favour...

They have done it for years in the US.

They can pull little tricks like jacking into the outside phone box on your home and dialing 911 then hanging up.

The responding unit then breaks in claiming they had a 911 phone call from the house and though someone was in danger.

Its not secret but in the cases i have heard of for some reason they had opened and searched cabinets and drawers that there was no way anyone could be hiding in.

Who know what else they did while they were there.
