Iran has enough material to make nuclear bomb

www.news.com.au

RAN has enough fissile material to build a nuclear bomb, top US military officer Admiral Mike Mullen said on Sunday, marking the first time the United States has made such an assessment.

"We think they do, quite frankly,'' Admiral Mullen said when asked if Iran had enough nuclear material to manufacture an atomic bomb.

"And Iran having a nuclear weapon, I've believed for a long time, is a very, very bad outcome for the region and for the world,'' said Mullen, the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff.

While the United States and European allies have expressed concern previously that Iran could soon have enough enriched uranium to manufacture a nuclear weapon, Mullen's more definitive comments went a step further.

The admiral's remarks came in the wake of a report by the UN nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), that said Tehran had made strides in its uranium enrichment work.
Some analysts have said Iran may soon have sufficient material to make a nuclear bomb.

According to the IAEA, Tehran now has 1,010kg of low-enriched uranium hexafluoride from its enrichment activities at a plant at Natanz.

That "is sufficient for a nuclear weapons breakout capability,'' according to David Albright, president of the Washington-based Institute for Science and International Security and an expert on Iran's nuclear program.

A breakout capability is when there is sufficient low-enriched uranium, which is used for nuclear fuel, to turn into highly-enriched uranium needed for nuclear weapons.

Here we go the propaganda machines are at work again this time finding an excuse to bomb Iran next.

keeping the fear alive while they plot their next move.

Different Administration same agenda......

When are people going to wake up to all this B.S.?
Guess its only a matter of time before the bombers go in.
Peace & hope

Never let the facts get in the way of a good Booga Booga story.

Iran has enough fissile material - low enriched Uranium - that, if they wanted to, or had the means to enrich it to the required +90%, they would have enough for a nuclear bomb.

BIG difference and lacking any scientific or factual support, but hey, if it gets the slack jawed knuckle dragging public all riled up then it's done the job.

They'll just keep parroting the same line over and over, despite anything the IAEA says, until someone, or a particular nuclear armed Middle Eastern state gets it's way for war.

This is a graphic of where the Iranians are in the enrichment process. They have low level enriched uranium, about 3-5%.

What I don't get is, how you cant read between those lines?
For starters, who is RAN?
And secondly if you mean The Islamic republic if Iran.
Then I suggest that reporter is an idiot.

right.. they built 6000 centrifuges for the fun of it..
They already have 3000 working for nuclear energy enrichment, and the rest? oh that's nothing! propaganda machine keeping fear alive, let those poor iranians alone

It doesn't matter how many centrifuges they have, what matters is the end result of any enrichment, which is all monitored by the IAEA.

So far there is no evidenve whatspever that Iran is engaged in a nuclear weapons programme.

But here 's a thing why didn't any state [Russia] never helped Iran to built some proper quantity of oil refineries?instead of enriching uranium? cause that is indeed one of their problem, their stuck with crude oil only...

Maybe they built all those centrifuges to make fuel for their planned nuclear reactors. After all, we're planning to bring an additional 12,000 centrifuges online in a couple of years. You need a lot of centrifuges to make a little fuel.

USEC starts construction of American Centrifuge Plant
On May 31, 2007, USEC announced the begin of construction on its American Centrifuge uranium enrichment plant in Piketon, Ohio. The company is "working toward beginning" commercial plant operations in late 2009 and having approximately 11,500 machines deployed in 2012, which would provide about 3.8 million separative work units (SWU) of production based on current estimates of machine output and plant availability.
USEC expects to operate a Lead Cascade of centrifuge machines in the American Centrifuge Demonstration Facility in Piketon in mid-2007.

Maybe instead of using all their oil supplies they would rather sell it,use nuclear plants to power themselves and make a shiny penny selling oil to other countries? makes sense...

You "only" need prox. 3000 centrifuges to get the 90% of 235 you showed in your chart. And if they want sustainable energy , why not solar energy [a booming bussiness nowadays] wind or blue energy? gee why am i defending myself

Then why don't they use their huge desert to make solar and wind powered farms? It would actually be cheaper, and there would be no waste, Iran obviously has ulterior motives, whether you agree with action or not (and I don't.)

This debate would be so simply understood if people would attempt to understand the motivations at play here. It does not matter if you personally believe that the Muslims have to destroy the Jews in order for their Messiah to appear and spread Islam all over the globe. THEY BELIEVE IT AND THAT WILL AFFECT YOU AND THE ENTIRE WORLD.

Stop being gullible blind morons and see this for what it is. Read the teachings that the Muslim people follow and know that the Iranian leadership follows the 'extreme' Islam that is terrorism. Its not rocket science!

Sure the Jewish state of Israel is not perfect and they have made mistakes but they cannot sit by and just allow the Iranians to develop weapons that they will use to destroy them with. When Iran's president said that he would erase Israel from the map (and he DID say that more than once) the rest of the world seems to claim they heard something else.

Israel will launch a strike on Iran that will begin the war of Ezekiel 38 and 39 and it will be very soon. Again, it does not matter if you believe in the Bible or the prophecy it holds because its going to happen whether you believe it or not!

Why doesnt america power its self solely on solar and wind power, theres enough desert for it,would be cheaper and less waste...

What kind of sad assed statement is that - 'you only need 3000 centrifuges'? If you want to make more of it, or make it faster, you install more centrifuges. 3000 in a cascade array will get you to a level suitable for power generation. Another 3000 won't suddenly make 4% uranium into 90% uranium, it will just let you enrich twice as much to 4% in the same amount of time. Is that okay with you? Or should we just kill all the Iranians right now and spare the debate?

All Iran could do with one nuclear bomb, or a dozen, would be to get themselves flattened posthaste.

Israel has about 200-300, and the means to deliver them accurately anywhere in Iran.

Not to mention an ABM system.

The idea that Iran is going to launch a nuclear attack on Israel anytime in the foreseeable future is just conceptually silly.

Iran may have a nuke that they can send off to somewhere like Israel, Iraq, or wherever the mood strikes them. They still have a way to go in the miniaturization of components and ability to deliver with precision. They don't talk about that for an obvious reason.

Israel, the US, Britain, France, could separately or together put them back into the Stone Age with millions dead and decades of radiation pouring into the region.

No one wants that. Iran has found out how easy it is to get attention, respect, fear, from the rest of the world by making a lot of noise about their nuclear ambition. The fact that they provide updates on their progress is a giveaway to the fact that they don't really want a nuclear conflict, but want to sound like they are prepared and ready.

The charmingly loony mullahs have painted themselves into a corner with their Islamic Revolution that was supposed to bring the Muslim world to their side. It isn't working. A few paid allies like the otherwise weak Syria, and funded mercenaries to do their proxy dirty work like Hamas ans Hezbollah.

The bottom dropped out for Iran the last months as oil has dropped to $40 a barrel. Their tight budget is based on it being close to $100.

Meanwhile their oil producing infrastructure is decaying, they have scared off most foreign investment, and the Iranian people, mostly young now, just want to pursue a semi-civilized existence, not constantly on the edge preparing for world conquest.

Trying to get sympathy while threatening Israel may backfire on them.

There is a sore need for a regime change, but the current leadership has made sure it won't happen through open elections.

So, again, the rest of the world watches on the sideline, waiting to see what happens? Will they try to go out in a burst of glory, will the regime just die of natural causes?
