The myth of a progressive liberal.

Hi there. I hope to prove to you in this topic that you might not (for those of you who still think you are) be liberal.

What people mean by when they talk about liberals in here in the USA it could mean either of two things. Either it means you're progressive. Or it means that you're a liberal as in you want to do away with property rights, hence, people call you a communist.

Sympathizing with communistic ideas does not make you a liberal. Ownership of private property does not make one greedy. It makes one think about what they have but I do not think that it makes them greedy essentially.

Liberals feel that it would be ideal if people had no ownership of private property. But would you really want that? How would you feel if you really didn't have anything that you could own or that like you could have to yourself?

Does it really sound like a liberal idea to do away with your individual rights completely and to let yourself be controlled by what a group does or what a group thinks?

I think not. Liberals want GOVERNMENT CONTROL and SOCIALISM of an economy when in a laissez fair economy people could solve their problems without the government's help. The laissez-fair system has helped us in the past. Yet socialists want us to do away with private property.

Is that really what you want?

I hope that I have changed some people's minds here about economic liberalism. I do not feel that the government should have so much control of what you do and what you can't do.

That isn't' a liberal idea. Control isn't liberal. Liberals stand for freedom, so, liberals should also stand for economic freedom. But if they did that they would be a libertarian like me...

Liberals call themselves progressive because they think every contribution the nation has made can be attributed to liberal people or the Democratic party. It's a shame that people think they're progressive because they're part of a party when many of their policies would do more harm than good.

I don't think we need much regulation of the economy. Liberals think that the economy needs to be regulated more but I disagree. Regulation can only lead to bad thinggs.

So you see, it's not just liberals that are progressive, it's ALL OF US that are progressive. Liberals call themselves progressives because they like making everyone else seem like retrogressive.

So, I just want to leave you with that thought and hope that you rethink about the liberal ideology and what it means.

Liberal to progressive is no different than jungle to rainforest, Global Warming to Climate Change, Personnel Office to Human Resource Office.

Liberals love giving new words to the same things, to make them sound better or to make it politically correct.

Liberal = Progressive There is no difference.

Exactly. People nowadays seem to classify liberals as all things good and conservative or libertarians as all things evil. It's because of Bush. If Bush didn't do so badly conservatives wouldn't have such a bad name or be called regressive. I am actually a fiscal conservative myself... do you know how appalled I am by when I get into arguments with liberals they actually are in favor of more government regulation? I mean it's one thing to think an idea is a good thing but then to be hypocritical like that and want the government to step in that's another... don't let anyone tell you that the government is responsible for our success. We the people are responsible for the government and are responsible for our success. The government doesn't control us. These liberals like to make it seem like the government is the only one that helps us. As a libertarian, I disagree completely with that statement.

Listen, Dems and RePugs are both part of the the same food chain...living off the people's blood...

I found the following video to be an excellent insight into the difference between liberal and conservative mindsets based upon five moral templates commonly held across all societies. At least, it gives you a much clearer and more objective view on the conflict between Conservative and Liberal viewpoints than you'll ever get from Rush or Olbermann.



I recall reading an excerpt from one of Michael Crichton's works a number of years ago, which John here also seems to resonate. We need both Liberals and Conservatives to make our society progressive. It's dancing the edge of chaos, as Crichton put it. If we are too resistant to change, our society becomes stagnant and atrophied. Slow death. If we are too liberal and too quick to change, society would quickly spin out of control and collapses. The dynamic between the two mindsets keeps our society moving forward without exposing it to the dangers of either extreme.
