Ehem. My point exactly. It's close minded fools like you that I pity.

Oh snap!

I just got dissed!

What now? The soul of my 2nd cousin twice removed's pet parakeet named Timbo is gonna pop out of a piece of cardboard with lettters on it in funny fonts and kick my closed minded ash?!?

But now to questioning and eventual barating and eventual 2nd grade name calling:

How is it that I alone am so closed minded? Wouldn't it be that you, for calling me close minded, are in fact participating in a mind-closing act by not seeing the view of another?

And believe me, I know by what I just said I would have also incriminated myself of being closed minded. So shoot me.

I see the reason behind your uncertainty with the Ouija Cardboards, I mean sheesh, I live with superstitions, I LOVE superstitious. Since the day I was 7 I've kissed the clock every single time the numbers were the same (3:33, 5:55, etc.)

So I guess my skepticism for the amazing powers of the Ouija Boards comes from my fruitful history with them. My friends and I have had many a strange encounter with them. For them, terrifying. For me, sheer delight.

Dude, people are pulling your leg! Maybe you're afraid to admit that the "spirit from another dimension" you were talking to was actually your buddy's interpretation of the dad in the movie Contact, which he saw yesterday on TNT.

Face it, maybe you've contacted another world, or maybe you've just tricked by a 3rd grader. I mean, what respectable communicator to another life seriously says, "I should hold a seance! I'll just dig through the cabinet here and- where's my Ouija Board? Oh! It's right here by Twister and my Deluxe Edition Monopoly."???

OK, for some reason I find the whole concept of Ouija boards slightly hard to grasp. The whole mass marketing thing and it's like plastic and stuff... yeah. And the fact that they're selling them in toy stores is crap. I mean, a lot of little kids if you tell them what the board is supposed to do, they'll get scared or they just won't believe it. Of course, there are a few exceptions and this is coming from my own experience. Kids aren't really the ones who buy them, it's mostly teenagers or "tweens" who want them for slumber parties. In this case, I think it's the people that you do it with that determines whether you get true results or not. Most of the "results" that they get are people moving it themselves. But basically, I think you should know what you're getting into and *really* know the people that you're doing it with.

Nice post, seriously, I'm not being sarcastic. I like how you covered both bases there.

But I do have one question...

What the hell is a tween?????

Not exactly a teenager yet- like around the age of 10-12.

I have to admit, the idea of using one does intrigue me but I've met too many 'logical' people who have ended up on the wrong end of a negative experience after 'playing' with those things. I'm not talking about messages (yes, people could push the glass). What I'm talking about is the appearance of entities after the board is put away (sometimes some time afterwards).

I believe that only an experinced witch or medium should use them. I am not experienced, so will leave them alone.

I agree with Scat, nice post

Okay, well I guess I did pull a little close minded move there myself, but oh well. But really Scat, don't jump to conclusions about me or anybody else on this site, I don't use the damn things and I don't believe you can contact anyone you want to using them. I have my own personal beliefs about them, but if I said what I think, you'd probably just make a mockery out of what I say because I see you love doing that
and it's not worth my time.

But there's more that can happen than the little magnifying glass moving, I haven't personally done anything like this with them too big but it gets very cold sometimes, things get moved on their own, etc etc you get the point.

Ah yes, and maybe the friends you hang around with really are the ones moving it, but I don't think that many people would pull something like that just to mess with your head. But the movement of the little glass dial is the least of what can happen with them, so I hear

Well indeed my friend, I did in no means purposefully jump to conclusions about you or anybody else. I was, like you, just stating my opinion. Nah, I'm not going to make a mockery out of what you say. I'm not that low....

Ok just once.

You said that few people would do something like that just to mess with your head. Honestly, the only thing most people are thinking when they ever even encounter someone whose got a Ouija Board is "Ooo...sweet...I'll totally make him think there's ghosts in his closet...sweet.."

I promise. I know these people.

But no no no my friend, I do not make mockeries of one's opinions. Now, one's facts and statistics, I might. And one's one liners pertaininy to myself, I might...and I did.

But personal opinions I will not attack. So really, what are your personal beliefs on the boards??

Atleast don't use the ouija board in your own place. Bring it to someone elses place and use it there. There place will be haunted, not yours.

Herman-a ouija board is a tool. Nothing more. For people like myself who not only believe in the Paranormal, by study it with serious intent, I can say this:

a hammer in the hand of one man is a weapon. In the hand of another, it is used to create. Still another will hold a hammer with no clue as to it's purpose.

Is it a toy? I don't think so. It it dangerous? No more dangerous than the mind, and intention of the person using it.

I personally own several ouija boards, INCLUDING an original Fund Board from 1919. I use them all, for divination, and attempted spiritual communication.

One point (no dis-respect to the Christian's here at ATS), if ouija boards were "demon-possesed", I would think the Parker Brother's factory would be the most haunted place on Earth

Well personally I believe that demons will use the board as a system of control over us. Not actually using the board, and definitely not moving the little dial on their own, but actually kind of posessing the person using it on a subconscious level. Now I have reasons to beleive that it's demons. Mostly from second hand information from very close friends and a few slightly odd occurances, but definitely no "proof", because things like demons will never be proven to exist for various reasons. But anyway, it really is just a board, but when people use it to contact the dead and end up "summoning" demons, the board itself may become somewhat posessed by the demons. Maybe they'll hang around it waiting for someone to use it, I don't know. But I do believe it's just a board, until it's made into something more [insert scary keyboard music]. It's just another more direct way for demons - or evil spirits or negative energy or whatever the hell you want to call them - to shove their ugly heads into your life to try and make you dance their way (not literally "dance their way"). I probably sound like a raving lunatic, but that's my opinion of them, honestly.

Lost Prophet-I do respect your opinion.

I also believe in "inhuman" spirits, as well as "human" spirits. And, IF spiritual communication does take place (which is actually a lot more rare than most people think), the odds of it being an "inhuman" (ie: never lived in a flesh body on Earth) spirit are really very slim.

It is my opinion, that most "scary" experiences have more to do with personal fear(s), and maybe a touch of guilt at playing with the board, than an inhuman visitor.

Yeah, you all seem to have pretty good points. Scat: I think you're a tad too much into this. I just put that up as an opinion. I mean, to a little kid it might not do much, but I do think it could. Some people might know what to do with them, others might not. And, as far as the moving the glass thing goes, alot of people have messed with them by themselves, and got results. I know it is possible that it's all psychological, a subconcious thing. Either way, marketing them at a toy store in the same section as Monopoly, and Twister seems a little odd to me. Then again, they do sell alot of black magic books in the library. Maybe they should put that in the same section
And as for the Parker Brothers factory(s); I think it depends on who uses them, not on who makes them. Maybe you do have to have intentions in order to contact anything...maybe. And not that I really beleive this, but corrupting 9 year old children would be a PERFECT plan for a demon. I'm not really sure who said it, but someone said why would demons want to go after young children. Corruption of our youth is a strategie used by many dictators and such over the course of history. I posted this so that people could share opinions, gather some thoughts.

ouija boards are toys. They sell them at any toy store espicially in Toy R Us

Yeah that's what I said seemed wrong. I think they can be used dangerously.

Your overreacting. Think of this if Spawn toys sell there does thats meet it is promoting hell and kids should not be playing with it... no its a toy and the same goes with an ouija board it belongs there.

I think the most dangerous way a child or someone who buys one in a toy store could use a Ouija board is hitting someone with it. I've heard the "home made" ones work better anyway.

The back of Ouija boards make excellent mouse pads. Now when I want to contact some dead people I just turn the Ouija board over. In fact this was written by a spirit.

I apologise if I am going over old ground but this is something I am seriously bothered about. The Ouija board is a tool, it is not a toy for the untrained to play with. After all a gun is also a tool and you wouldn't want anyone to play around with one of those would you ? Not unless they were trained in its use. I hope not anyway.
The board can and does allow the user to contact other planes and entities. Call them spirits if you will. These entities can be benign or malevelant. The benign ones are usually helpful, its the others you need to be worried about, and they do exist.
When you use the board, you need to know what you are doing. Just because you get someone who says she is Auntie Jane who died last year, doesn't mean you really are getting Auntie Jane. You could well be getting a mischievous spirit or even something rather nasty. Your Auntie Jane is probably in the otherworld, happily planning her next incarnation. What you get is some horrible creature masquerading as her in order to scare the living daylights out of you. That's why you need to be careful.
As others have said, if you know what you are doing, the board is a good divination tool. If you don't know what you are doing, you could be calling up a lot of trouble for yourself and others.

this subject was discussed here at great lengths.
But I will say, you will not become possessed by a piece of cardboard made by parker brothers I promise.
It is your own egos that influence the board, even though you dont think you are moving the piece, a part of your mind is moving the piece

Its true that you are unlikely to be 'posessed' by a piece of cardboard. I never said that you would. You should see the board as a telephone to contact other levels. If the person you are phoning has caller ID and an internet connection, he can find your address and come to visit. Its the same with the board. But if you are knowledgeable in its use, you will know how to stop that. Its a bit like using the Caller ID blocker. Use that and the person you call won't be able to find your address.
