Indeed, the Patriot Act, Gitmo, and all the various anti-terrorism policies that are part of our hypothetical "War on Terror" are, well...useless. Yousef could have been apprehended several times before the 1993 bombing: he entered on an illegal passport, claimed he was seeking asylum yet never showed for his court date, and was involved in an automobile accident, after which he ordered explosives, by phone, from his hospital bed.

A Year to Remember (aka 1993)

I agree 100% with this blogger. Maybe he should be head of the NSA?

The patriot Act was designed to chip away at personal liberties of US Citizens not really capturing terrorists despite claims by the administration.

If anybody really feels "Safer" because fo the patriot Act they are seriously deluded

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

The patriot act was a result of way way too extreme post 9/11 paranoia. Some of the ideas expressed in it can work if they are worked out to fit the constitution. However, the patriot act when it was passed was and still is unconstitutional.

I disagree. The Patriot Act is extremely useful.

Just like the Reichstag fire and Enabling Act was extremely useful to Hitler:

Reichstag fire, burning of the Reichstag (parliament) building in Berlin, on the night of Feb. 27, 1933, a key event in the establishment of the Nazi dictatorship and widely believed to have been contrived by the newly formed Nazi government itself to turn public opinion against its opponents and to assume emergency powers ... his propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels, is supposed to have devised the scheme. ... On Feb. 28, 1933, the day after the fire, Hitler's dictatorship began with the enactment of a decree "for the Protection of the People and the State," which dispensed with all constitutional protection of political, personal, and property rights.
