Three Planes In Formation

Just looked out my window and saw three planes in perfect formation headed north along st croix river between MN and WI. Now just saw about 4 more planes headed that way. Anyone know anything about this? Can you track planes scheduled flight paths at all? Cause they looked like commercial airlines, and I'm pretty sure commercial planes dont usually fly in formation.

Was there a big plane and several smaller ones?

Just curious, i know when a important official etc fly's , they are always flanked by fighter jets and have several not far behind.
