virus from this site yesterday

Hi - just spent the morning removing a java exploit virus I got from this site's friendly advertising sharks
ClamX anti virus for macs and wot web warning used but I am disappointed

Just for the record, I have never had a problem with this site regarding virus's...........

I no longer waste my money on paid anti virus or anti spyware software, I just reinstall my computer.

I must have called up Microsoft support center to manually activate my windows account at least 15 times already since you can only activate an windows operating system a set period of time before you have to call support up to manually activate it.

Hey, not my fault if they make it hard for me.

These days I wouldn't be surprised if ATS started up porn adverts, its pretty borderline already.

I have been getting malware alerts when on the site. An alert pops up saying "you have a virus and you need to download something." Don't download anything.

It is VERY annoying. And sometimes I get booted into another window for an ad.

Just to clarify.

Sometimes you get this alert because your computer has been invaded by an advert-hijacker.
In other words your adverts and popups are forced on you by a piece of malware you have gotten from somewhere else.

Those stupid "you need to download this software" extra windows are probably from malware you already have on your pc.
Be aware that when you get those popups or windows where you can click on yes or no (or even click on the x in the top right corner - sometimes they all do the same thing - namely install your advert-hijacker (or other malware)

The easiest way to attract this type of attention is to move around on porn sites and say yes to install this nifty little software which will enable you to view/download clips or video. As mentioned above even saying no will often install the program.

When you encounter them it is best to open the joblist and stop the relevant proces that way.

Find one of the free on-line scan sites and get your pc checked.

FYI I don't go to porn sites. Mostly ATS, MSNBC, BBC and blogger sites. It only pops up when I am on ATS.

My husband just installed flash block for me.

I use Firefox and run a couple of script blockers. No problems in the couple of years I've been coming here. Isohunt had similar incidents early in 08 that were tracked to iirc java based cross scripting from advertisers.

Try this excellent free malware scanner Malwarebytes.It is ad free.You only need to buy it if you want realtime protection.
I have never had a problem with ATS for the record.

One can eliminate virtually all virus/malware/spyware problems by switching to Linux. It is much more user friendly than it used to be. It is a little bit more work initially than windows--to get flash and .wmv files to work, for example--but in the end it's worth it to not have to worry about viruses messing everything up. From what I've gathered, it's hard to hack into Linux based systems as well.

I'm sorry - I didn't mean to imply that you got the problem from a porn site. Obviously there are other places where you can get them. Even other users on your pc can get them on your behalf.

It doesn't need to be a porn site - only an infected site.

And because you see it on ATS does not nesseccerily mean you got it from there.

THAT was the point I was trying to make.

I use Google Chrome, and I visited the site yesterday and it a warning page popped up telling me the site was unsafe and contained malware. This wasn't a popup, it was a security measure from Chrome. I have been visiting ATS for years and this is the first time that has happened. I did a virus scan and used 2 different spyware programs and found nothing but a couple questionable cookies. But the problem hasn't returned and was most likely just a bug. Only reason I mentioned something was because I saw this thread and thought it was an on coincidence.

....so that s what I am doing - by unticking java script in firefox on my imac.
free anti virus clamX and wot alerted me but still a hassle to find and destroy the java exploit

You know, yesterday I posted in another thread about this issue. I run on Linux, and like I said in the other thread I have never had any issues with ATS. A couple hours later while reading a thread, my whole comp froze up and I had to force quit everything. If you have Linux you know that this rarely happens.. Just odd IMO. Maybe that has something to do with what everyone has been talking about.. I'm just happy I have Linux cause the force quit is as bad as it got.. I can deal with that.

gee wiz damn how come you blew the stake out... yea, we noticed it as well -- and well no one used the exploit on our packet sniffer box... well scan daily and alway get a second opinion.
