Hello all, I don't actually post on here very often, but I've been reading ATS for years. I was out walking with my son the other day and spotted some very strange contrails in the sky. Fortunately, I had my camera on me, and managed to get nine separate pictures of the contrails. I've never seen anything like these. I did some google searching, but didn't come across anything like these.

I'm not sure this is the most appropriate forum for this shot, so if any mods feel that it should be moved, please do so.

I am only going to post one shot to get things started, as they're all relatively similar, but if desired, I can post all of them. I also still have the original full size shots straight out of the camera, if anyone would like those as well. I have done some editing on this shot using Photoshop CS3. Adjustment of levels, contrast, and some sharpening has been done.

Without further ado, here is the shot. I'd love to hear anyone's opinions on this shot. Thanks.

Cool picture. It reminds me of some sort of wing vortex phenomenon.

That is strange. Twice while working in Scottsdale Arizona I saw a totally clear sky except for rays of clouds fanned out coming from a single point in the direction of Phoenix. It looked as if some generator machine off in that direction had create the clouds Lots of strange stuff in the sky.

Almost looks like someone attempted to do some sky writing for the first time. The center one almost looks like a heart for Valentines day, well, maybe.

That’s an older picture which often shows up in Chemtrail/Contrail Threads.
Those are Wingtip Vortices.

IAttackPeople gets the prize.

BTilson, very cool contrail shot!

I´m curious, what made you post this in the UFO/aliens forum section?

Oops, the nozzle got a piece of silver iodide stuck in it.

Seriously though. How could anybody continue to not see the horror in these chemtrails.

Yep, just your average water vapor.

They might be the contrails of one of those pulse engine Black Ops craft.

I have forgot the name and will search around and get back to you, might be called the Aurora?

On a F-15:

F-15’s in formation

MD-80:

From a 737:
737 Wingtip Vortices

Wingtip vortices from a preceding B-737 are forming the condensation trail into what appear to be smoke rings. Atmospheric conditions have to be just right for this phenomenon to occur.

From a T-28:
T-28 Vortices & Smoke Ring

Smoke Rings by airventure.
...the smoke forms with the wingtip vortices and eventaully forms these circles. As you can see the T-28 was able to fly through one of them!

Here: Original Photo, is the original source photo that you have posted above. In the Description of the photo:

Contrails or vapour trails are condensation trails and artificial cirrus clouds made by the exhaust of aircraft engines or wingtip vortices which precipitate a stream of tiny ice crystals in moist, frigid upper air. Being composed of water, the visible white streams are not, in and of themselves, air pollution. However, contrails generated by engine exhaust are inevitably linked with typical fuel combustion pollutants. Contrails might also be considered visual pollution.

I looked through all the forums, and this was the closest match to a bizarre aerial phenomenon like this one, at least as far as I could tell.

I appreciate all the input everyone. Looks like the mystery is solved. I had just never seen anything like this at all.

Thanks!

I hear ya Reel, i've seen some strange looking contrails in my short time here in Phoenix...roughly 11 months...I've chalked alot of it up to the mountains around the region ripping the clouds into strange looking shreds as they pass by, but some of the contrails i've seen are just waaaay too odd. I'm pretty close to Luke AFB as well so i've witnessed alot of military craft flying what seem to be routine runs, but every couple of days i see contrails up there that just look STRANGE. Wish I had a decent camera, but alas I am poor
