Wasnt sure where to put this so changed the title a bit, and well fits with old myths n all.

Rare photo of the ‘end’ of the rainbow

Pretty darn beautiful picture, just a shame their aint no gold there, anyone else got any more pictures to go with this once in a lifetime sighting (so to speak).

Several readers have said in the Comments section that they think this image was PhotoShopped. Nick: But it appears that this image is genuine. I have now had it reviewed by 7 people — 3 veteran photographers, a top-notch graphic designer who specializes in PhotoShop,m and 3 meteorologists at the National Weather Service. We also uploaded the image to Flickr and checked the lat/long of the image, which was taken with an iPhone. The info box says the photo was taken where the reader said it was taken. And the info text says the photo was not manipulated.

Just so you photoshop haters out there dont beat me up i did read the article and well the guy says its legit after having it checked out.

It's not the end of the rainbow, it's the beginning! No gold means it CAN'T be the end! There's still hope for us yet!

Way cool picture. I didn't think physics allowed for this to happen, but I sure hope I'm wrong

I think that.. in the first photo at least.. that it's not actually that we're seeing the start of the rainbow, but infact we're seeing THE whole rainbow. as in the rainbow isn't fully formed for whatever reason, and creates a different look.

Such as in that photo, where the spray is creating the rainbow.

It looks like the spray from the back of the car in front causes the rainbow to intensify at the road.. if you look closely, the bow keeps going down to the bottom of the pic.. albeit barely visible but it is there.

Cool illusion.

yes, see that picture i posted earlier up. that should explain what happened, although i sort of created the idea in my head, but it makes sense.

Ahh, good point. I pulled it up on the big screen and there it was. I think I still may stick with my "beginning of the rainbow" though - that was a whole lot more fun!

I think this one speaks for itself, given the state of the economy.

Interesting.

I always thought that finding the "end" of a rainbow was impossible because it's always subject to perspective, and thus actually moves as you do. As in you have to be at a certain angle of the sun and the rain drops.

I wonder if the rainbow wasn't actually moving with them as they drove. Makes sense to me that it would be, as they took the picture while moving and such. Still cool to see it going to the ground.

I've seen little rainbows come off the mist of cars in front of me before, but this one seems to arc way up in the air.

Yea, you could see the end of a rainbow literally a stones throw away... But if you are daft enough to run towards it you would never get there... I've seen loads of em! still not got any lucky charms
living in britain, working with water and riding through spray - you gotta love the rainbow.

There's a myth that says rainbows were a gift from the gods, to be able to see the colored arc. And who says you can't catch 'em? Wrong. That's the entire job of incarnation! Note my signature:

"Through the Fire, Over the River, Across the Rainbow Bridge."

When you 'catch' the rainbow, you'll know it.

Thanks for posting this picture, that is awesome! I never knew there really was an 'end' to one, I always assumed it simply faded out on the horizon. Star for you!
