Rare Green Comet Approaches Earth

dsc.discovery.com

Feb. 10, 2008 -- Look up in the sky. It's not a bird. It's not a plane. It's certainly not Superman. And to be honest, you'll probably need a telescope or binoculars to make out the green comet that's headed this way.
Discovered by a meteorology undergraduate student at China's Sun Yat-Sen University, Comet Lulin is on a fast track toward Earth.

thought this was interesting being that this is it's first trip this way.....I wonder what cause it to break orbit from the oort cloud region where they believe it came from. A million years to get here. I wonder is there any plans to send something to study it's composition. Do anyone know how close will it get to us or how fast it is traveling.

There was another thread about this comet a few days ago.

It will only get within about half the distance to the sun from us, roughly .45 AU I think. Its motion in the sky is pretty fast though, partly because it's moving opposite of the planets' orbits.
