Minor to moderate injuries represent a majority of battlefield casualties. The goal of the Soldier Self Care Program is to develop technologies that allow warfighters to administer self-aid for these injuries, thereby significantly reducing the requirements for medic support and/or evacuation. Program objectives include:

*A ten-fold increase in the number of warfighters using self-aid techniques in the battlefield.

*A five-fold increase in the rate of tissue repair.

*A major reduction in the number of battlefield evacuations due to minor injuries.

*A physically functional warfighter 96 hours post-injury, resulting in a decrease in convalescent leave.

*Control of pain and treatment initiation within five minutes of injury for more rapid stabilization.

DARPA

Sounds very ambitious - I'd like to hear from some guys who have seen combat and what they think of this...

From my eyes, anything that could save lives is a huge plus.

i think that's an awesome idea. it should be given to people such as firefighters, EMTs, police officers, and the likes as well. sad thing is, it'll probably lead to the dehumanization of the troops in one way or another.

How so - because they would be viewed as less likely to die?
