wo RAF pilots were injured when they were forced to eject from their aircraft in Cyprus.

The crew members from 20 squadron were training at the British air force base in Akrotiri when their plane crashed on the runway.

Anyone have any idea how many Harriers have crashed since first production, it must be a very high figure. At least two a year seem to crash in the RAF alone, its starting to become a common practice!

No doubt down to the mixture of age and general complexity of the mechanics, at least they can salvage the body for spares I suppose.

The harriers safety record is pretty bad when compaired to other modern jets.

thats why they are getting new planes. also the harriers that are 2day are quite new, but they are based on the 60's version. but its probably the hardes plane to learn how to operate due to the vertical manuvers you can do with it. but they are replaceing it with f35 lighting II. that can also land verticaly.

After the Harrier’s most recent engine redesign overhaul, serious accidents dropped from 39 every 100,000 flight hours to 3.17 per 100,000 flight hours in 2001. In Iraq, Harriers have now flown nearly 11,000 hours without a mishap since May 2004.
