I listened to his speech last night and it was painful. It was like listening to an 8th grader describe his science project.

If you add in the interest on all that new debt, just in the first year, that $800 Billion (which is close to a trillion, at least it is these days) is well over a trillion.

They are financing all this debt at below 2% a year interest. Fed is also providing much of it at zero %. I think the fed is becoming the defacto central bank that we need. Just a matter oftime before it becomes an american ownd institution. Then we can just wipe that debt off the books. I think this is the plan but it is so contrary to the current system that we need to take baby steps.

Whaaat? Surely you know that the Federal Reserve is a private corporation, has been the U.S.'s central bank for the last 60? years, and is NOT funding this (the IMF is funding the debt). The Fed doesn't do anything but print paper money.

I, uh, am, uh, mmm, uh, with you. I can not uh, uh, bare to uh, mmm, uh, listen to him speak.

He just does not look or sound Presidential to me. He sounds like a newbie person running for some low level office position.

Instead of me starting to like him, im starting to dislike him more and more. He has not started off good IMO. This American is not impressed, at all.

Why do people do that? Bring up something not relevate. Bush is out. He should not even be brought into this. We are talking about the current, uh, mmm, President and the fact he is just wrong for this position.

You are right. Not relevant - but terribly painful no less.

I'm not a die-hard Obamaite - but I like the way he speaks.

I don't know that he is any more wrong for this position as anyone else would be.
And - chances are neither do you.

I think you should at least give him a chance -
And - I won't mention that we let someone else have 8 years to make a difference.

Now let's be fair here. Shortly after the inauguration, I was laid off. That was a change. There is a new Amendment going on that has nothing to do with flag burning or gay marriage, it's all about letting the two houses of Congress to get out of Dodge easier, so that is a change.

In fact I often walk over to the penny jar and hope I have some change...in that, you can believe in...so I guess he is living up to his campaign slogans...too bad it wasn't exactly what people thought it meant.

I guess his experience as a community organizer is showing through with all the delegating of responsibility going on.

He could have been told by the person that was being picked. Obama made an apology, that's what we got to see. What we didn't get to see is the possibility of his vetting committee missing something. We didn't get to see any reprimands that could have happened due to this incident. Sure, ultimately it looks bad on Obama. At least we know that when something happens when Obama is in office he is going to say ok we were wrong and we are going to fix it.

Here is a little tip to remember. Just because we have a President that will admit to being wrong now, doesn't mean that the previous Presidents were always right. My point being, if we judge being a novice based upon how many mistakes a President makes then Obama is good.

It doesn't seem to trouble Obama that 2/3's of the American people oppose his Stimulus package though does it?

It looks like here is troubled by that figure, look here here. That seemed to be the main focus point of his speech on Monday night (9feb09).

I thought everyone was going to hold a candlelight vigil and sing a few chorus of "Obama" like they did when he was campaigning for office.. It worked then, why not now?

All the candles must have burnt out when things like this start popping up link.

Sorry, I don't wear that particular tinfoil hat

Why? I know this is about Obama stumbling thru his speech without his precious teleprompter, but how much of a chance did Bush get? The liberals, the Dems and just about every other guy and his dog were busting Bush's nads from Day One. Remember 2000? "He's not my president!!!!" "Stolen election!!" "Impeach! Impeach!! He's just like Hitler!!"

Now, everyone is suppose to give Obama a chance. To do what? Screw the country up more than it already is? I know at least three times in his speech, he pretty much said, "It's Bush's fault this is how things are." So much for hope and change. It's going to be an easy term for Obama; just blame Bush for anything that he can't fix.

Rant off.

Obama is doing things the democrat way and not the republican way, but that isn't the kind of 'change' he said he's bring. He said he'd change the way washington did business. That includes the way democrats do business. Obviously that's not happening.

You can post a million articles where people don't see any change. That's fine, people can keep on writing them too. Obama has a plan and right now he is running the show. You can call that plan a democratic plan or whatever you want. Right now he is trying to being everybody together to put this plan into motion. He has had meetings with Republicans in an attempt to get them on board. That fact of the matter remains that we cannot go half way on a plan (for lack of a better phrase).

Hope and change was a campaign message. However, this is not a dictatorship and Obama can not force everyone to play ball.

Ah,the right wing propaganda machine is already in full blame Obama for the mess they created mode.

Our current huge government/fed reserve debt was ran up by Raygun and Bush I and II, not Obama.

So far, I think Obama has done a great job, and I did not vote for Obama, and was a hard critic during the election.

Here is a point of truth, NO ONE is ever trained for the job of POTUS, it is, and has always been OJT, and now more than ever. The job of POTUS is to be a campaigner, a politician, and if you didn't know that by now, you are completely clueless.

Couldn't agree more with regards to the stimulus package, I don't think its fair to say the UK has been hit as hard but I'm in the banking industry and the company I work for has barely been touched, if you give them more money they'll just throw it away again, these people don't know the value of money..

Obama could be doing a hell of a lot more with that kinda money

How Chicago Shaped Obama: A Look at the Rise of a Politician

RYAN LIZZA: Yeah. You know, he got very lucky. He almost left politics after he lost that race in 2000 to Bobby Rush. But everything after that turns his way. The Democrats in Illinois were—won the right to redistrict the state, and like all Democrats in Illinois, Obama was deeply involved with the redrawing of his own district. In fact, one day in the spring of 2001, he sat down at a computer with sophisticated mapping software and began the process of redrawing his own district.

And his district changed in fundamental ways after that. He used to represent just an area in the south of Chicago that went east to west. His district changed; it now pointed north—it was a north-to-south district—and it included a huge chunk of downtown Chicago, including the famous Loop, which is the big business district; the Gold Coast; all—almost all of the Chicago Lakefront. He represented now all the museums, all the finest shopping areas of downtown Chicago, as well as his original Hyde Park base. So it was a very, very different district. It became whiter. It became wealthier. It became more white-collar. It became more Jewish. And it had one of the highest concentrations of Republicans in Chicago. And the folks that lived and worked in that district now would be the important donors for his US Senate campaign that started—that he started to run for in 2002. So it was a big dramatic change, and that redistricting really was a huge turning point in Obama’s political career.

The other thing that it did, besides the fact that his constituents now were so much different, the overall goal of redistricting in Illinois was to take back the State Senate for the Democrats. They gerrymandered the state, and they accomplished that in 2002. So, after 2002, Barack Obama, who had been a state senator since January of 1997 in the minority, where he couldn’t get much done, he’s now a state senator in the majority. And that allowed him to do—to actually get some things passed and get all of the issues—and get all of the things passed that he would then use as a platform for his 2004 Senate campaign. So that redistricting was incredibly important to his political career. I think you could make an argument that without that red
