Hi all,

First time poster, long time reader. I recorded something a bit odd tonight and would like your feedback. Is it a satellite? Weather balloon? Planet? I posted the shorter of two videos on YouTube. www.youtube.com.... The first, which is the longer of the two videos, is uploading now and should be available soon.

Thanks for your time & comments!

Cheers,
Steve

To eliminate it being Venus/ISS etc can you provide a few things?

Your location
The direction of the object
and the time you filmed it.

Cheers!

I'm in Gainesville, FL (map). I was recording towards the North. It was 8:30PM and I recorded two videos. The first was 8 minutes and the second was 2 minutes.

Strike that. I was recording to the West. You can see on the map that the street goes East to West. Definitely towards the West.

Venus would be about 35-40 degrees up in the SW. sky from there.....
DARN....M&M's would have been nice

Hmmm Venus was in the sky to the west but it would have set by 8:30 your time. Or I've got my timezones mixed up

So you shot this nearly 2 1/2 hours ago? or longer?

It's 11:54PM here now, so I shot it just over 3 hours ago.

Cool! I was an hour off my timezone calculations

So I'd say it's Venus:

Stellarium is a good site for this sorta thing.

Isnt Venus much closer to the line of sight to the moon?, and secondly isnt Venus set by 19:30? Unless the ISS has an invisible anchour, does it not move freely through space in its own orbit? I dont want to be the guy to ruin anything but You may well have captured something mate. When you zoom in you can see texture in the light as well. One would think that object would have to be pretty close to the earth for that. AND, if it were venus, How is it oyu are just now noticing it in familiar skies?
