CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - A Chattanooga detective accused of assaulting an elderly Wal-Mart greeter who asked to see his sales receipt at the store has been suspended from duty.

I too find it very irritating to have my sales receipt checked on the rare occasion I patronize Walmart, But I have never felt like pushing any of the old people down.
I wonder what was going thru the LEOs mind to even consider harming the elderly.
Granted, the stress of dealing with with the lowest in society must take a terrific toll on cops but my question is; are training facilities for cops stressing enough the "Protect and Serve" aspect of law enforcement?

#ing despicable. If they have this guy on tape, he should be fired, no questions asked and never allowed to be a cop again.

In many jobs, one would be fired just because of the PR nightmare alone. I can't believe somebody feels that this guy still deserves to retain his job. Guess it must pay to be a police officer where one is given a second chance to brutalize again.


Excessive use of force ????? What was the reason for using force in the first place. If force can't be justified this cop should be charged with assault and abuse of an elderly..

Absolutely reprehensible.

I usually have nothing but repsect for the men and women who put their lives on the line in the face of duty...

But when the stresses of the job get to be so overwhelming that these self-same officers start abusing the very people they're sworn to protect...it's time to put these guys in a different line of work.

You know, people say its the "fighting the scum" that makes these guys like that...but in truth, its not. Its a personality flaw, thats all it is.

I have known good people whohave wore a badge, that come home, and they are still a good person, they mayhave had a bad day at work like everyone else does, but they dont go beating up wal mart people afterwords or shooting teenage boys in the back at the train station.

They say they put these cops through psychological analysis before giving them a badge, but I dont think a test on a piece of paper does the trick.
There needs to be a new system for recruitment of these cops, and if the ones on the force right now dont meet that criteria, they need to be let go.
This aint the wild wild west anymore!

Oh trust me it is on tape. And by this point everyone in the store has seen it. Wal*Mart may suck, but their secruity systems are freaking bad arse!

'or even when they take my 20 and hold it up to the light,,,,i for some reason feel like they don't trust me,,, or are saying we better check your money,,, you look kind of shady

That's sensationalist and irrational, and you know it.

If every officer you meet is a complete jerk with an attitude, I highly recommend you either change your lifestyle, your associations, your perspectives and actions, or better yet - join the force and be the "good guy" you claim doesn't exist on the force.

I have never met a good cop.

And no I don't go around trying to start stuff with cops.

I have been pulled out of my car, handcuffed and my car searched at a DUI checkpoint. I had nothing to drink, and was nothing but polite to the cop.

I walk home late at night from my job, atleast once a week I am harassed by cops just for being out late.

I did not know there was a curfew in Amerika.

I am always polite to the police, but they have never been nice to me. Always get treated like a criminal, even if it's just for having a taillight out.

The police force is in a very very sad state right now.

I'll admit I've had my run-ins with these jerks in uniform, and please understand I not talking about those power hungry little piggies when I refer to Officers of the Peace.

You're right - there ARE a lot more of them these days, and I'll spare the details of my personal experiences with those types, but I've still mad more encounters with nicer officers than these little piggies.

It's a shame how many incidents in the negative are cropping up everywhere, it literally makes me sick.

But I still can't jump on the stereotype bandwagon that "ALL cops are evil".

I do understand though....I just worry about the good men and women on the force who might have their lives jepordized because of nothing more than their uniform and job title because of this overwhelming "all cops are pigs" thing.

That's all I'm saying.

I know there are good cops out there. I just have yet to meet one.

You face a huge uphill battle if you go into the force as a good guy. I think that's what happens to most cops. They get corrupted by the system, when they thought they were going to go in there and make a difference.

But if the populace keeps getting pushed around by these cops on a power trip, than there is going to be a general hatred towards all cops.

But no they aren't all bad.

We shop a lot at Costco, and they always check everybody's receipt on the way out. One nice lady even draws a smiley face on it when we have the kids with us.

I think people in general need to lighten up and stop taking everything so freaking personal.

There's simply WAY to much rage in this society, from both cops and non-cops.

Exactly, everyone just needs to chill out!

I just started a thread on how I get yelled at by people everyday just for not having an item in stock.

If cops are always stressed out, alot of people are going to get hurt.

Maybe if a certain herb was legalized we could all get along much easier. Everyone would be happy!
