Iran rejects US demand to halt atom work

www.ynetnews.com

Iran will not halt sensitive nuclear work as demanded by US President Barack Obama's administration, a close aide to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Wednesday.

The new administration has said Obama would break from his predecessor by pursuing direct talks with Tehran but has also warned Iran to expect more pressure if it did not meet the UN Security Council demand to halt uranium enrichment.

Obama's administration has said it would use "all elements of our national power" to address concerns about Iran's nuclear program and has not ruled out military action if needed. Iran says it is prepared to defend the country if attacked.

Ahmadinejad said on Wednesday Iran would welcome Obama's offer of a change in US policy but said it must involve withdrawing US troops stationed abroad and an apology for past "crimes" against Iran. "America has always extended a clenched fist towards Iran... If America unclenches its fist Iran will extend a hand of cooperation towards America," he added.

More crazy muslim problems in the world. will this ever end?

And why should they? As participatory and compliant members of both the IAEA and the NPT they are guaranteed the right to have their own nuclear enrichment programs for use in the interest of energy for their people. We formed a treaty with them in the 80's whereby they were to suspend their enrichment and the US would provide them all the EU they needed for their civilian energy needs....what happened? Well, they stopped their program in good faith, but the US never sent a single shipment....so several years later they started again.
And dont reply with that foolish "oh, they mights secretly be making it into weapons, not fuel", for that just shows you know nothing about the process of being a participant in the IAEA and NPT. Every single ounce of their EU is under camera, alarm, and lock and key, monitored by IAEA officials every minute of every day, so no, none can just be "snuck out" or any other such garbage.

Iran is in fact the ONLY compliant member of both the IAEA and the NPT, America is not, Israel is not.

Is Israel a signatory to the IAEA and the NPT? Perhaps it allows inspections of its nuclear facilities? Has it made nuclear threats to anyone?

Ever think we don't know everything about EU? It might be possible there are weapons out there the public dont know about and the Iranians are making.
Obama might just be trying to stop them from making these top secret weapons.

Well good for Iran.
And why should they bow to the U.S's demands all the time.
Who anointed us world police?

And from what moral highground are we givng these demands?

And the U.S should stay out of Iran/Israel issues.
Afterall seeing how many people in our government has dual citizenship with Israel,id call it a conflict of interest.

A one-track mind with tunnel vision.

This thread is about iran (not Israel). Can everything really be about Israel and the Jews?

I personally would like to know how iran expects to open a dialogue on this subject when it sounds like they are the ones making demands (for apologies, etc.), and now this.

It's not so much of a muslim problem if America leaves Iran alone. Stop the sanctions, stop supporting the proxies, and get the hell out of there.

Now, where's the problem??

Oh, wait, forgot, they have to let us take over so we can see if they have nukes for ourselves. They have to do infinite IAEA inspections, until they've been inspected so much, they fall to the floor and pass out.

Oh, yeah, and we need to "justify" military strikes on Iran. Forget the "change" Obama was talking about, he wants to change that we haven't hit Iran with military strikes yet.

So let's see... whether I had voted for McCain or Obama, no matter which one I chose, we would still go after Iran? Sounds more like America is a proxy for something else, because that's not possible!

Glad I didn't vote. So much for that idea.

Obamas talk earlier in the week about dialogue with Iran without preconditions seems mightily at odds with the views of his secretary of state, who has already pledged the usual unwavering support for anything Israel may want.

I seriously doubt that with Clinton in the state Dept. there can ever be any meaningful dialogue between the US and Iran. She has already made her views on Iran quite clear.

Remember all the "bush will attack iran on (fill in the date) threads from last year and previous years:

This one is typical:

thread

So, how soon before we start seeing more of the same with obama's name penciled in? Because as many of us said would be the case - Bush never did attack iran.
