FDA: Peanut processor found salmonella, shipped anyway

The government Tuesday accused the peanut butter manufacturer tied to a nationwide salmonella outbreak of shipping products in 2007 and 2008 after internal tests found bacterial contamination, violating food safety regulations.

Peanut butter and peanut paste manufactured by the Peanut Corp. of America (PCA) has been tied to the salmonella outbreak that has sickened 501 people in 43 states and is believed to have contributed to eight deaths
The Food and Drug Administration said that its inspection of the PCA plant in Blakely, Ga., found records of 12 instances in which plant officials identified salmonella in ingredients or finished products. The products should not have been shipped, the FDA says. PCA took no steps to address cleaning after finding the salmonella, says Michael Rogers, director of the FDA's division of field investigations.

This is something that seems to be happening more and more. God forbid that a little Salmonella should effect the bottom line.

The lack of respect for the American public makes me ill...no pun intended. I also think that because it's affecting mostly kids is what's pissing me off the most.

It's stories like this that make you (me..us) afraid to eat things that are grown in fields.

US consumers greeted the new year with historically low confidence as the economy struggled in recession, and the outlook remains "quite pessimistic," a survey showed Tuesday.
These consumers are eating cheaper and peanut butter is a huge staple in that area. Well not any more, I guess.

I hope that the new President creates a law that punishes companies who continue to ignore problems like this. A law so devastating in it's penalties, that they would have no choice but to do the right thing...screw the bottom line.

ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY DOLLAR....

Its obvious to see that the money value was placed in a higher priority than to human life.

The US needs to follow China's example and actually issuing the death sentence to those who knowingly allowed tainted goods to be sold and that lead to deaths.

If they even so much as HINTED that would happen , you watch the food manufacturers clean their act up and clean their production lines daily.

China has the correct answer...look what happened to the perps
which allowed melamine into foods & formulas shipped all over the world.

they paid the supreme price, & so should it be here in the USA

Peanut Corp. recalls all products back to 2007.

Salmonella was found at least 12 times in products made at the Ga. plant.

Food and Drug Administration officials called for a recall of all products containing peanut butter, peanut paste and peanut oil manufactured since Jan. 1, 2007 at the Blakely, Ga., processing center operated by Peanut Corp. of America.

That could vastly increase the number of recalled food and other products in the nation’s consumer supply.

The CDC says it has seen no illnesses beyond those associated with the Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak.

A lot of the government inspectors at these plants are no more than a bunch of thugs looking for money under the table to do nothing. I've seen it before.
