An idea: All across the United States, and maybe more, let's join hands. Yes, we should all work together, but I was thinking something a bit
more literal.
en.wikipedia.org...
The Baltic Way. From Lithuania's capital, Riga, to Estonia's Tallinn, people held hands in protest of the Soviet Union. Does anyone remember this?
They wanted out of the Soviet Union. It was an illegal occupation, and they weren't taking too kindly to Stalin-brand socialism. But more
importantly, they also wanted disclosure of the rest of the details of the Soviet-German non-aggression pact.
en.wikipedia.org...
This pact basically stated that the Soviet Union and (then) Nazi Germany wouldn't fight each other. Cool, if a bit dodgy since it's Nazi Germany,
but there was a secret protocol at the end of it. It pretty much meant "haha no freedom for the Baltics", and so thus was the fate of Latvia,
Estonia, and Lithuania. (Finland fought back, too, but he actually won against the Soviet Union. Very impressive on his part.)
The protocol was secret. It wasn't to be told to anyone, and the three unhappy Baltics wanted to know what was REALLY going on then, and they wanted
the PROOF that their Soviet occupation was illegal. The rest of the world was ignoring their pleas, so they once again took things into there own
hands.
ENOUGH of the boring history lesson, though. What I was thinking was this - we still have a bit of a chance at a peaceful protest of what the
gov is doing right now. There's still so much we want to know, and so little anyone is willing to admit. I don't want us to talk of violent
revolution, as that can be used against us.
But what of holding hands?
All across the US, either in all of the states or just from coast to coast, we hold hands in protest. We protest the US' illegal seizure of our
freedoms, and we ask for disclosure. And if even this is considered to be detrimental to the gov and we are attacked, then the rest of the world will
learn what is REALLY going on, and the rest of the world means the People, not the uncaring government officials. (...except in Finland. Finland's
still doing pretty well, actually.)
The basic idea is to test the waters before we try anything drastic. I.E., let's not be too hasty, folks. Don't reach for your guns just yet
- there MAY still be a chance at peacefully fixing things, and if it fails, then the rest of the world can know what goes on, since news DOES still
get out to the rest of the world. After all, something THIS big, if it does succeed, can not be ignored by foreign media, even if it is ignored by CNN
and Fox.
So what say you? Is this a good way to protest? What other reasons could we do this for? (Besides testing the government to see if it's really
gotten THAT bad yet.)
Sorry for the long post, ATSers, but I wanted to relay the idea with people who probably know more than I do.
Edit to make this a prettier post.
