I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but I just saw on the news. People are making a huge deal about these parent's naming their child Adolf Hitler. Their argument is that a name is just a name. Just an odd news story I thought you guys would be interested in. This is the URL to the video. Not too internet savvy so I don't know how to embed, etc.

O.K. Adolf Hitler is just a name but so is (or can be) All Women Are B*****s. The thing about it is that it is offensive. Who in the state of mind of, it's just a name, would choose to name one of there children something so offensive? If it's just a name and really no big deal then change it.

The name is not the problem. The mentality of the parents is. If you care for your child's future, why would you pick such a name? There is no rationality.

i don't find it offensive. I have atleast 3 friends that i can think of with the name Adolph or the last name Hitler.

It's just a name, it's not offensive, it's not the name that killed and murdered and tried to control the world, it was the person behind the name.

What if he'd been named John Smith? Would all those people been demonized? Ofcourse not.

Leave these poor people alone, they just as much right to name they're child Adolph Hitler as i do naming mine Seven (which i did)

That's my point though, more likely than not it is what the parents want the name to represent rather than the name it self. If the parents of that child stand for those principles then of course there's going to be friction about it. If they don't care for Hitler and his ways then the name would be just a name and they wouldn't have to stand by it so strongly. It would be as simple as changing it.

I find the naming disgusting. I can see how it might have been important to someone maybe from Germany who was hoping their country would become the big winner of domination, in the form of pride or patriotism. I can see it. Not to be confused with believing it. Who is to say where people draw the line in their own adherence to their own country?

What if one of us names our child George Bush?

The difference: he is not rounding people up-starving them-exterminating them after they have suffered as much or as long or as dehumanizing as possible, during his quest for world domination.

Well, a huge amount of differences. Too time consuming to think on them and type them all out.

As far as I can tell, America is mostly stable in our borders too. America is trying to take over everywhere, just not in the same manner. America is not leaving it's flag in other words.

Some random thoughts on the name Adolf Hitler.

well, this is quite ironic, as when i read the title and the issue here, that bring back a very very old chinese teaching that passed down to many generations.

my father always says to make sure we keep our family name clean, do not smear the family name as it will last for many generations to come.

adolf hitler is a name and just a name, isn't it amazing how true the chinese teaching was ?? because of what adolt hitler has done, his name is associate with it even for many generations to come.

You've got a very good point. I was talking to a friend about this issue, and I remain impartial. I can see how even though a name is a name, if it's offensive, it isn't right, but technically anything can be offensive to anyone based on life experiences. An example: If you name someone "Dog", it may be viewed as offensive to one person, who may take it as an insult to the child's intelligence, but many native americans named their children after animals. So I suppose it's all in the persons perspective, and when it comes to he said/she said, I don't think anyone would have the right to say anything bad about the name. However, as one stated already, it may lie in the parent's meaning of the name, which, as it stands now, they claim it is "Just a name".

Some parents are just bloody minded (English for stubborn idiots) and burden their kids with names that will affect their lives in a negative way. No foresight.

Extreme example would be the possibility of a Jewish employer giving Adolf Hitler a job. Human nature would see parents leaping to the conclusion that Adolf's parents are Nazi sympathizers. No parties for the young Adolf. Bullying at school. His life would be made a misery. Much like 'A Boy Named Sue' he'd need to 'get tough or die' as kids put their finger beneath the nose and do Nazi salutes every time he's on the playground.

It's a shame that people make assumptions based on a person's name, but don't use your children to make the point. I'd humbly and respectfully suggest that these kinds of parents require cranial-penis removal surgery urgently.

If the parents like the name so much they could adopt it for themselves.

See how much they'd enjoy going round being called Adolf Hitler.

Same thing goes for anyone who wants to saddle their child with a stupid name that will leave them open to ridicule and bullying.

Funny you should mention George in all this and say he didn't do the same thing. HE DID, he just didn't tell you about it, but we all know what happened over seas and even the mistreatement of your own countrymen.

The difference between George and Hitler, there's only one. Hitler had to nerve to tell people what he was doing.

If it really is just a name, then why
has it sparked such controversy?!

The obvious, truthful and logical
answer then would discredit the
"just a name theory".
