What bothers me is the fact if your drunk, your drunk,Blow a 1.1 and obviously you should not be driving or working for the man.

But to smoke a joint on Saturday and drive on Monday, the person is not impaired in any way to drive a truck or to teach our kids.
Why can't the test be for intoxication at the moment?

Truth is these laws are making alcoholics out of most pot smokers, Myself included.
Tax that weed, Free the people, & put some gold back in Fort Knox.

Nobody should be required to take a drug test, period; let alone those applying for employment. It is not the employers business what a possible employees personal life consists of. An employee should be judged on their job performance, attitude, and workplace behavior. Once the workday is over any employee can make whatever decisions he/she chooses. Nobody should be kept from being employed because of their personal, out-of-work decisions.

I know I have responded to this too early in this thread, have not read it all.

However, here goes...

I agree that government imposes too much as it is. Drug testing is now a way of gaining employment for much of society.
It doesn't matter should I have something to hide, so long as I do not cause anyone harm, the government should stay out of my life.

We the people are not here at the whim of the government, rather it is suppose to do our bidding. Hasn't been that way for awhile now.

Damn straight. The problem is, too many people see government itself as the problem, trying to live out a fantasy that if we just get rid of it, everyone will be totally free and everything will be all hunky-dory. They fail to understand that this isn't the 1700's, there's no more frontier, and that the world and society have become so big and so complicated and at such a fast pace that government is an absolute necessity in order to provide the framework for society. They deny the existence and needs of "The Commons" in favor of worshiping some concept of individualism that really no longer exists, and probably hasn't since the late 1800's.

Rather than acknowledging this for the irrefutable fact that it is, joining in, and doing their part (those in the military services notwithstanding) they retract from the process, and shirk their duties as members of "The Commons" because they have some nebulous fear that by doing so they contribute to their own slavery. How many ATS members refuse to vote in any election? How many avoid paying their taxes? How many have largely "given up" on being active citizens, simultaneously trying to break down those of us who haven't?

Is government messed up? Sure. But this is America, where our Government is at least meant to be for, of, and by the People.

That means, folks, that you get the government you deserve.

If you won't get involved in the process, if you see the process itself as the problem, then you don't have a moral leg to stand on when you complain about how bad things are.

We DO have the power to hold our elected officials accountable. We just need to actually do it instead of sitting in front of the TV, or b&$#@ing about how bad things are on conspiracy forums.

Put down the remote, put away the six-pack and get active on the local level. Run for office. Do something other than waste all your time here or places like it. After a few years you might actually start to like your government, because it's actually starting to work for you.

Drug testing to get a job is "guilty until proven innocent" which is against our system of justice. Random drug testing is a violation of the Fourth Amendment. It also violates our right to face our accusers (and slap them with lawsuits for making false accusations).

Lest anyone think, I am soft on drugs and drug use, I am in favor of executing drug dealers and even executing drunk drivers who kill people. But us innocent people should not lose rights because of criminals.

On this topic, has anyone ever flunked a drug test while applying to be a teacher? The only one who benefits from testing potential teachers are the companies who sell the drug tests!

If pre-employment drug testing is so valuable, then why isn't it required for politicians?

Teachers should be held to a higher standard than truck drivers.

How much damage can a drunk teacher do at work? Possibly upset maybe 25 children for 50 minutes or so?

How much damage can a drunk truck driver do? When the 40 ton rig misses a red light and smashes into three cars, possibly killing five or six people... which is worse?

Your comparison is pointless.

Smoke weed on your own time that's fine.

Isn't that what this whole thread is about? Teachers DO smoke weed on their own time. What's the big deal?

Presidents and other world leaders admit to smoking weed and they run governments!

Let's put it into perspective!
