Iraq sheltering al-Qaeda says UK.

There is evidence al-Qaeda "operatives" are being sheltered in Iraq, UK Prime Minister Tony Blair's spokesman has said.
It is the first time that the British government has explicitly linked al-Qaeda and the Iraqi regime.

Last week the prime minister said that there were some links between al-Qaeda and people in Iraq, but stressed that there was no evidence of a link between al-Qaeda and the Iraqi regime.

Like all fair minded people I look forward to seeing this evidence.I hope it is not just rumour and propaganda.I remember only too well the disapointment I felt when I read the contents of the UK dossier on Iraq.It offered no proof and merely repeated old weak arguments for a war of aggression.

whats slightly weird is that we know and have proof that members of Al Quaida retreated back into pakistan. Why are we concentrating on countrys that ~might~ have WMD's and ~might~ be harbouring terrorists when there are countrys that we ~Know~ have WMD's and we ~Know~ are harbouring terrorists.

I think above all else its that little fact that makes Europe skeptical of US motivation in the middle east.

Pakistan has been more open to assisting the US in tracking down terrorists that fled there. At least, on the surface, they give the appearance of cooperation. Iraq, on the hand, has not, and instead chose the option of being openly defiant...

Don't get me wrong though, Pakistan and India are a powderkeg just waiting for a match....

I don't fully buy that, I mean, Iraq has allowed us to police its air space, send in inspectors into its military instellations and inspect its records.

we keep being told they're being un co-operative but frankly I can't see how they could be more co operative.

Theres no way any other country in the world including Iraq would allow us that far into their national security grid, yet Iraq allows us all these freedoms (allbeit under the threat of war) and some how they're being uncompliant.

I'd love to see the US grant france the right to check out its biological weapons programe.

Iraq only cooperates in sites where he knows they aren't going to find anything (and we won't, because the installations are underground, and away from civilization, with very few traces leading to them above ground). He still violates many of the provisions of the resolutions, including the questioning of Iraqi scientists without an Iraqi monitor, etc. Sure, they've had to allow a lot of intrusion...it's because they LOST the war! Without agreeing to such terms, he would have been ousted from power back during Desert Storm. The point is, he has backed away from these agreements for years, and with such visible attacks on America as 9/11...it's time to start getting the weeds out of the garden. Osama is a weed that we haven't found yet, but Saddam is a huge weed right in the middle of the garden...

Al Qai'da is hiding in Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan...just to name a few places. You're dumb as a rock to say otherwise.

At least the British leadership isn't openly hiding terrorists and paying off suicide bombers...so London isn't on the target list...
