Japan launches rocket with greenhouse-gas probe

TOKYO – Japan fired the world's first greenhouse-gas monitoring satellite into space Friday, a launch deemed crucial in the country's quest to compete globally in putting commercial satellites into orbit.

The black, white and orange H2A rocket took off from the space center on Tanegashima, a remote island in southern Japan. The launch — the 15th for an H2A — had been delayed for several days because of bad weather.

I think this is a good thing, well at least in the sense that we'll be able to monitor the ever climbing amount of greenhouse gasses. With global warming on people's minds this should be of some comfort in that at least a more stable way of monitoring now exsists, Japan and South Korea seem to be taking greater steps in the current space race, for profit? noteriety? Who knows but I for one am watching their progress closley.
