A new CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll said nearly seven in 10 African Americans believe that with the election of Obama, King's dream of racial equality has been fulfilled.

I think this is huge story for the African American community and it deserves some attention here on ATS.

I remember as a boy hearing the "I Have a Dream" speech on television. I remember being moved to tears and in many ways the inauguration and the MLK holiday falling one day after the other is almost enough to make me believe in God and justice!

So please take a moment and listen to this moment in history. I am proud to be an American today!

The 'Race' issue hasn't been fixed. Obama supporters that are entranced might want to believe so, but we have yet to see the end of it.

It's called progress hence progressive. I did not say the race issue in America was resolved. This is simply another milestone for progress. I think it means something to minorities in this country that white America voted Obama for President. Actions speak louder than words and the African American community and other minorities feel that fact. The desire to be "judged by the content of their character not the color of their skin". Just for the next couple of days I hope we can celebrate the decent law abiding citizens of our country.

B. Hussein Obama was not elected on the content of his character....but was elected based on the color of his skin. Something totally different than what MLK dreamed of. The first affirmative action President takes office tommorrow. Maybe one day a black American will be elected President based on his character...one that can prove he is actually an American?

In my opinion Obama got elected because he was Democrat, any Democrat would have got elected after the Bush disaster. It may not be right. But likely the truth.

This election does mark a definite sign of progress. But as some have said, the race issue certainly isn't "fixed". I know of no one who thinks that it is. And that is evidenced by deluded attitudes that he was only elected because of his race.

There are those of us who know that he was elected because of his character, which is exactly what MLK was talking about. I'm sure there were some who voted for him because they wanted a black president, but that's not why he was elected and to assume so is a tremendous insult to the man.

So, no... the racial prejudices still live on. But Obama's achievement is a strong sign of the progress we need and MLK dreamed of...
