Future of abstinence-only funding is in limbo

As research has shown these programs really do not work at all and have simply been a waste. Instead of treating our children like intelligent beings, we have wasted 1.5 billion plus on what amounts to a fancified version of "No"

Is anybody shocked that 'Georgia" will soilder on?

NEW YORK – With the exit of the Bush administration, critics of abstinence-only sex education will be making an aggressive push to cut off federal funding for what they consider an ineffective, sometimes harmful program.

How quickly and completely they reach their goal is uncertain, however, as conservative supporters of abstinence education lobby Congress and President-elect Barack Obama to preserve at least some of the funding, which now totals $176 million a year.

And even if federal funding is halted, some states — such as Georgia — are determined to keep abstinence programs going on their own, ensuring that this front in the culture wars will remain active.

i don't think it's much of a shock to know georgia will continue the program.
they obviously view it as a culture war.

anyway, that funding did seem like a waste of dollars.
it didn't do much good obviously and it doesn't make make much sense to me.
the human animal has natural urges and if religions can't seem to impact on behaviour, how would saying: keep it in your pants until marriage work?

I'm under the impression that teenagers are going to have unprotected sex and it doesn't matter if we tell them no or give them contraceptives. In turn teens are going to get pregnant and have babies, such is life.

No, it doesn't surprise me that Georgia is going to carry on with abstinence only education, but in all honesty if the public education system keeps teaching kids what to think instead of how to think it isn't going to make a difference what the schools teach the kids.

The way it is now its don't have sex, with contraceptive education it going to be have sex just wrap it up, of course birth control and all that but I'm sure you get the point.

Until we start teaching kids how to think and not what to think our kids are just going to keep getting dumber and dumber.
