Bush Commutes Sentences for Two Former Border Patrol Agents

On his last full day in office, President Bush commuted the controversial sentences of two former Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a Mexican drug runner in 2005.

The imprisonment of Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean had sparked outcry from critics who said the men were just doing their jobs and were punished too harshly. They had been sentenced to 11- and 12-year sentences, respectively.

Their sentences will now expire on March 20 of this year.

Ramos and Compean were sentenced in connection with the shooting of Osvaldo Aldrete Davila, who was shot in the buttocks while trying to flee along the Texas border. He admitted smuggling several hundred pounds of marijuana on the day he was shot and pleaded guilty last year to drug charges related to two other smuggling attempts.

Nearly the entire congressional delegation from Texas and other lawmakers from both sides of the political aisle pleaded with Bush to grant them clemency.

So Bush finally did something good. It ticked me off to the max when I found out that these guys were sent to jail for shooting a guy trying to smuggle drugs into the country. The funny thing is that same guy got caught trying to bring more drugs in later. What happened to these patrol agents was a travesty and Im glad Bush pardoned them....

These guys still already served two years for a 'crime' they did not commit, and still have ruined careers and reputations. They were not even pardoned. Wouldn't it be funny if President Illegal gave them a full pardon as one of his first acts? It would be a slap in the face of Bush.

Wow, he actually got something right in the final analysis.

i feel like i actually accomplished something

finally

i think bush jr is making a point by his pardons and commutes. basicly to the effect of his take and part in the "illegal drugs" issue. For one its very possible that the bushs were involved with running at a top level, illegal drugs.

But I also think if we decriminalised all drugs and found more humanist ways of dealing with adiction, the human race might move past this artificial contrived drama queen society.
