Never in recent memory has an outgoing president been so vilified as the last 8 years of George Walker Bush. Given up on by his parents as a born
trouble maker, and lazy too, they turned to James Earl to be scion of the Bushes to keep the dynasty going. Brother Neil barely stayed out of jail in
the 1980s Silverado S&L debacle, but his daddy being Vice President saved him. Brother Marvin is not smart enough to get into much more trouble than a
few speeding tickets.
Why Laura married George remains a mystery. She was two times as smart and polished and better qualified to be president as was George. Based on
simple arithmetic about 50% of the married women in the world are smarter than their husbands. Historically however, men have dominated women since
time immemorial. Because of the sole capacity to reproduce the species, women have been burdened first with a pregnancy and then with nursing and
nurturing the infant up to about age 4 or 5 when in the olden days, the child went to work or they died!
Even as late as the Middle Ages it was more likely than not that a man would die before reaching age 30 and for women, averaging those who died in
childbirth, about age 27 or 28. Romeo and Juliet were in the early teens. There are so many instances of marrying a girl of age 10 or even younger in
the royal families of Europe that we must assume this was the norm and not the exception for common folk as well.
What has Bush done right lately? Well, he seems to have acted with uncommon decency towards the incoming president in the transition from his
administration to the next one. Although I have not seen the real numbers, I have read reliable sources that under Bush the neighborhood clinics
serving Medicaid clients have been expanded. Based on his other anti poor actions that may have been more a fluke if not an anomaly for Bush.
The most significant mistake ascribed rightly to Bush was the tax cuts he sought from the Republican Congress and got, in 2001. After 8 years of
serious effort to reign in the Federal budget in those areas which Republicans hate, help for the poor and disadvantage, the CBO projected a $5
trillion budget surplus over the next 10 years based on retaining the tax rates and not breaking the spending limits.
I don’t know if that was the first thing Bush did in 2001, but it was close. He gutted the taxes that produce the Federal revenues and he ignored
the limits on spending. The totally sycophant Republican Congress - New Gingrich and Dennis Hastert along with medical doctor Bill Frist in the Senate
following Trent Lott - could not wait to kill what Clinton had achieved.
From then to now, Bush has run a half-trillion dollar annual deficit. Our national debt has nearly doubled under Bush and now is the time when we
could have used that money! Boy, would it have been great! We know from the numbers that the baby boomer generation will begin retiring in 2010. (1945
+ 65 = 2010).
By 2020, the payout of SS benefits will exceed the income from the FICA taxes. Borrowing will necessarily rise to cover that shortfall. It is however
forecast that by 2040 the demographics show the FICA income will again exceed the outgo. If bush had not given the rich and famous the $5 trillion tax
cut, we could have gone out to 2025 before borrowing gets into fresh money.
4,228 Americans have gone KIA in Iraq. under Bush. 640 men and women have gone KIA in Afghan under Bush. See
icasualties.org...
Bush is leaving office Tuesday at 12 noon. He leave TWO wars, and the worst economic crash since 1929. He created the mess at Guantanamo Bay, probably
authorized torture as practiced there and at Abu Ghraib. Scooter Liddy is proof that decision was made by Bush and VP Cheney. Yes, Bush commuted
Liddy’s jail time to save his own butt. Just like his father pardoned Casper Weinberger and his aides to save his butt. Wow! Like father, like son?
Now Bush has bought a house in Houston. You can be sure that will inconvenience his neighbors to no end. In fact, I would not be surprised to learn
(later) that the US Government has purchased the house on either side of his, and the 2 houses at the entrance of Bush’s street. The other houses
have no doubt been throughly scrutinized - vetted back 3 generations - and probably alarm systems installed so those neighbors can sound an alarm
anytime they see anything suspicious. The houses bought by the Government will be occupied by high level civil service types, the so-called GS
supergrades with 20+ years of Federal service.
So Bush cannot escape his past. The 154 death warrants he signed as governor may or may not haunt him. That’s one man every 2 weeks for 6 years, on
average. A world record! Unlikely to ever be broken in a democracy. (Illinois found 7% of death row inmates were innocent. On that basis, Bush had 10
or 11 innocent men executed).
Bush may find the let-down too much to stand. He may end it all.
