Dino Shakes Tail Feather

blogs.discovermagazine.com< br />

For feathered dinosaurs, it appears that fashion came before function. A new study of a dinosaur fossil found in northeast China has revealed that the dinosaur, Beipiaosaurus, not only had the soft downy feathers that have been spotted in other fossils, it also had a more primitive type of feather that appears to have been used only for peacock-like displays.

...The display feathers could have been used in mating rituals, Xu says, or in fights to defend territory.

Can't get any more alternative than this news story. The Beipiaosaurus dinosaur could be a link between the bird and other dinosaurs. It used its feathered tail just like a peacock, doesn't get any more top secret than that.

On a side note the dinosaur resembles Keith Richards, or IS IT Keith Richards?

Sometimes I feel that the science community is just like tabloids in that when things are slow they rehash old stories to stir up interest

What are they saying differently?

I'm lost are they saying the feather were colored like a peacock?
