This is my first post as I am fairly new to ATS. I am a full believer in the possibility of UFO's and phenomena of the like... however, I try to maintain an open yet unbiased mindset and attitude when it comes to this subject - - in other words, I question everything I see, hear, read, etc.

I live in East Central Florida and yesterday, i was working outside and there was a fairly consistent blanket of cloud cover over the entire, surrounding region - nothing about it seemed out of the ordinary until i noticed what appeared to be a rather large, elliptical "cut-out" in the cloud cover . . . here is a link with pics that accurately depicts what i am describing:

www.project-ufo-intl.com...

what i saw was almost exactly like what is shown in these pictures.

- the clouds within the cut-out were a lot different than those on the outside as it is in these pictures. i had no idea what could have caused this sort of thing to happen - now, a cold front had moved in the night before...whether that has anything to do with it, i dont know.
there were actually two cut-outs, one was a little smaller and further away, but they both were symmetrical, elliptical shapes.

later that day i was just finishing lunch and i noticed most of the cloud cover had dissipated revealing the sky. i then noticed a large, perfectly circular (not elliptical) ring of whispy clouds in around the same area/direction as the elliptical cut-outs i saw earlier that day. at this point, i figured, "ok - clouds just dont naturally form perfect rings in the sky like this..." i took a picture with my cellphone, but unfortunately (of course..) i didnt store the picture so it is lost. i have seen things in the sky that i couldnt identify, but i have never seen anything like this. my logic tells me that nature doesnt act this way...even by chance...
so, does anyone have any idea what could cause this sort of phenomena? any ideas? similar experiences?

Welcome to ATS !

seen the pictures before, very interesting.
that's a really nice cloak......or a cloud!
makes quite a phenomena

Ive never seen these before, thanks for presenting them. While it is impossible to be certain what causes this, I really to think the coincidences involved are indisputable.

Actually, they do. I do not remember the exact name of the phenomenon or the exact mechanics behind it, but it does occur naturally. Find OzWeatherman on here, he'll be able to explain it.

UPDATE:

They are called Punch Hold Clouds. This website has an explanation of the phenomenon and some beautiful, jaw-dropping photos.

Punch Hole Clouds may appear as a circular or oval holes in a layer of supercooled clouds; sometimes they assume a form of a perfect circle and persist for quite a long time, drifting together with the cloud layer. One explanation seems to blame the air traffic (the jet contrail intersections) combined with a thermal inversion (a circular motion of a rising warm air).

I've been seeing stories about "sky/cloud circles/rings" lately, and attributing the phenomenon to UFOs. And there was a Punch Hole cloud during the O'Hare Incident.

Can you prove that a UFO couldn't do this though?

Yep, what you go there is a classic hole punch cloud Op

There are two types of these, one (like the one you got) occurs when ice crystals from cirrus cloud fall through layers of lower cloud such as altocumulus or altostratus, which are composed of supercooled water droplets (liquid water existing at lower than frezing point).

The second type is caused by either a plane (or UFO even) travelling through a thin layer of altocumulus dispersing the water droplets, leaving an exposed trail throught the cloud layer.

Nice pic

what I saw while in Northern Italy on the late evening of the 6th jan 09 was a light high up above the clouds, it was snowing and this light was moving in a circular motion for quite some time, maybe an hour or so. I was staying up in the mountains in a secluded area so It could be seen clearly in the darkness and it just stayed in the same spot all the time and just kept moving round and round, very strange indeed. It was late so I after watching it for some time I went to bed, it was gone by the next morning.

Well to be honest I have thought about this one before after looking at similar pics. And I really do think its more just the clouds and atmosphere than anything else. High pressure, low pressure etc etc. However who am I to judge. I still like to keep an open mind.

Nope.

However, we know they are a more-or-less natural phenomenon. The mechanics for the phenomenon do not require aliens or UFOs to explain it.

Isn't amazing how scientist can come up with answers almost immediately for any unknown or unusual phenomenon that may be associated with UFOs or Aliens but when it comes to problems that have existed since the beginning of time they are still perplexed. Maybe if the cold and flu had arrived yesterday we would have a cure by next week.

Isn't it amazing how some people jump to the supernatural when they do not understand something?

The accusation here being that we've just made up an answer to explain away possible evidence of extraterrestrial visitation. That is not the case at all. This is a known phenomenon; we have a good idea of the mechanics behind the phenomenon, and it does not require a UFO for it to happen, therefore there is no reason to jump to the conclusion that aliens are behind it.

Perhaps you could present evidence that aliens are behind this particular phenomenon, instead of dismissing the explanation out of hand.

What a terrible analogy. The cold and flu are not unexplained phenomenon; just because we can't cure it does not mean we do not understand it.

Wow clouds forming around UFOs.
That can't happen because the illuminati say there are no UFOs.
And there is no scientific principle for a non plane to do such a thing.
Think again.
It is possible.
