Military secrets.

Hello, I'm a new member here, from Madeira Island, Portugal. We'll I've recently gotten some information from a very well known journalist(he has lot's of military contacs) here that there are "things" (maybe installations, underground) related with the military here that are kept top secret. That automatically made me curious but I couldn't get anything out of him.. we have 3 military bases here that I know of (one is the navy radio command) but nothing that big, none of them seem out of the normal for the basic defense of the Island. What could the Portuguese military be hiding here that is so important to be kept top secret? There is a plan for the construction of a big NATO radar on one of the highest peaks of the island but that is of general knowledge. The island is in a strategical position in the Atlantic, as like the Azores where an American Air Force base is installed. Maybe they're hiding armament or something? Oh, and we've been having more and more activity in the skies, Portuguese and American F-16's passing by at night on Patrol. I don't know if I'm exaggerating here but It doesn't hurt to imagine. Any thoughts on this? or any articles you may find I'd be very thankful.

This looks to me like it could be a very good Island to put a top-secret base. There's alot of mountains, so it's easy to park something important inside one (Like Dulce, or Los Alamos, or NORAD)

I'd just say that if you saw a good deal of boring equipment, that you'd be safe to assume they were constructing SOMETHING underground.
