Dead baby hidden in plane hand luggage

www.news.com.au

PAPAU New Guinea police have arrested a woman attempting to carry a dead baby in her hand luggage on an internal flight.

Police in PNG capital Port Moresby were called to the airport today when security discovered the dead baby in the woman's traditional string bag.

The unnamed woman's husband fled the scene while police made the arrest, police sources said.

What the hell is wrong with Papua New Guinea, besides the obvious? Are people there just nuts?

I posted another thread a few days ago about a rocket launcher being found in luggage at another PNG airport.

At least their security is working, but how can people think that they're going to get away with taking a baby corpse onto a plane???

It shows that some places haven't progressed much beyond savagery.

Here's a link to the rocket launcher thread, in case you want to read that as well.
Not that it generated any interest first time around. No worries.

He wasn't trying to check them in as carry on luggage though, was he?

There's a huge difference between declaring guns in your car at the car park, to trying to board a plane with a rocket launcher or dead baby in your luggage.

They live in an area that has avg 5.0 quakes everyday. Perhaps people are not so different than some animals and are sensitive to earth activity. Maybe more so than most think.
I am not saying the earth made her go crazy and carry her baby around with her. But maybe it impaired her judgment. People are also severely devastated when their children die. They grab hold of them real close and never want to let go. The woman might not be that nuts. Perhaps she wanted to bury the child with her ancient relatives or something and we all know well that most other countries normal people cannot afford simple luxuries like paying for transport of a coffin on a plane.

Theres very few facts to go on there, so it's hard to judge whether this is someone who is "nuts", or a distaught mother who has just given birth to a baby, and is in a poor mental state trying to hide the baby's body?

Obviously it's not right carrying a dead baby around in your luggage, but many mothers give birth and dump the baby.....maybe she'd just given birth and it died, and she was too messed up to know what to do with it? Doesn't want to part with it if you know what i mean?

Who knows, like i said, very few facts there in that article.

I don't find this all that shocking if people knew anything about New Guinea you'd also know some of the tribes also practice canibalism. After some of the stuff I saw about New Guinea on the national geografic channel you wouldn't find this all that shocking.

Some of you people must go through life with blinders on there are other cultures on this planet besides yours you know.

Maybe a bit wacky for us, but just because we have different values and would have probably paid the enormous cost of transporting a body properly - might not be that big of a deal - as long as it's not some sort of murder or other serous criminal activity.

Anyway I'm sure the airline is happy that they got her arrested for not paying the several thousand dollar corpse transport fee.

maybe US security is a little better and they caught him before he got to the airport scanners.

Not really sure why this is a newsworthy event. Obviousy they were trying to save on airfare for the infant and the baby died in transist.

And how is that obvious? because that is your first impression on the news story? Do you have any facts that state the 'obvious'. So quick to judge.

My first thought was that she wanted to bury it somewhere else and didn't want or have the money to pay for the body shipping fee.

It actually didn't shock me that much.

Infants fly free its a lap baby seat as in the mother/father carries the baby in his/her lap so you dont pay for an extra seat. I agree with nixie if that is what happened its not that shocking.
