Now, somehow "ohh_pleasee" thinks that 11 000 gun deaths in the United States is Ridiculously High, the US being a country of more than 300 000 000...thats alot of zeros...

Now let's take South Africa...my ex and much hated country....a country of some 45 000 000 people...

So the United States has 255000000 more people than South Africa...

The latest national figures say that about 12,000 people were killed by gunshot in South Africa in 1998, a figure that accounts for 25% of all unnatural deaths.

Germany - 381

France - 255

United Kingdom - 68

Australia - 65

Japan - 39

United States - 11,127

So actually take the time and compare...

I hate when people ask me why I left South Africa as a White person...

There is your answer, im not racist, i just wasn't quite ready to die yet....

Well, the whole gun thing is seems to be mainly a euro thing. sure, in countries where firearms are totally banned gun deaths are pretty low. However, I'll take my chances and keep my right to bear arms. I have no desire to live in a police state.

Forgot to mention a good portion of that gun death is suicides....

Yes, we have an estimated 80 million to 100 million legal gun owners in America. God knows how many illegal guns are in profession of criminals.

If suicides and illegal guns from criminals are taken out of the picture, the stats would be much much lower.

Gun deaths in the States seems like a huge number but think for a moment about all the atrocities and deaths that Americans avoid by having guns to shoot in defense.

Other countries with fewer gun deaths may have more atrocities and brutal crazy deaths because they cannot defend themselves from bigger bullies with a gunshot to the testicles like Americans are free to do.

I dont understand why "guns" came into this or why you posted that in your title as the stats/source you are quoting clearly states that those numbers are in relation to murders and or homicides... no where did I see guns mentioned.

a 1992 Economist article characterized as requiring "a restraint on personal liberty that seems, in most civilised countries, essential to the happiness of others," a policy the magazine found at odds with "America's Vigilante Values." The safety of English people has been staked on the thesis that fewer private guns means less crime. The government believes that any weapons in the hands of men and women, however law-abiding, pose a danger, and that disarming them lessens the chance that criminals will get or use weapons.

In reality, the English approach has not re-duced violent crime. Instead it has left law-abiding citizens at the mercy of criminals who are confident that their victims have neither the means nor the legal right to resist them. Imitating this model would be a public safety disaster for the United States.

A few weeks back on National Public Radio, in the news section, they said that 45% of gun deaths in the US are attributable to suicide.

Take the other 55%, and back out the murders committed by gang-bangers, drug dealing, and "disrespecting" in the larger cities such as Miami, Atlanta, Memphis, Dallas, Chicago, New York, and so on, and you find that it's really not that bad here in the US.

If the bulk of your fatal shootings are from suicides, or deaths within the drug-trade industry, or these gang-related killings, then what's the problem?

The faster these turds kill each other, the better for the rest of us in the US.

Well being european,i think Americans should have the right to bear arms since its in your constitution, although thats being slowly eroded away anyway.I think what you mean is most european countries dont want guns legalized,or to have anything to do with them.Im sure if you made a poll the large majority would agree,in a democracy the majority rules as flawed as it may be.I find its usually Americans calling out europeans for NOT having guns, not the other way around. In my experience anyway.

Since there is a gun ban in Japan how are there rates with knife/sword/poison/beatings and other ways of murder outside of using a gun

Looking up the latest statistics for 2007... here is what i have been able to find so far. (Firearms deaths)

Total 10,086 Firearm Murders in the US
www.fbi.gov...

This one is interesting (column 2 for firearms murders)

3,987 are "unknown", 1,264 is "other not specified" and 2,225 as 'other argument not specified" and another Felony Other not specified of 301 so we have almost 3/4 of firearms murders not classified and that astounds me in this information age.

So 7,776 firearms murders out of 10,086 are not classified as to why it happened which makes the statistics about useless as any of us can "guess" what these 7,776 were about since gangland killings and narcotics are classified under the "other than felony" section... go figure.

www.fbi.gov...

of what's left

1,159 were directly involved due to the criminal commission of a felony (Rape, Robbery, Burglary, Theft, narcotics, etc)

The other

696 gangland killings (why this is not under felony I do not know)
68 due to a romantic triangle
96 killed during Brawls due to the influence of alcohol & narcotics (narcotics legal?)
192 Over money or property (how many drug related?)
1 sniper attack
and another 35 "suspected felony type" which tells us allot.

I do not know if suicides are included in one or more of the unknown categories. It doesn't say.

Justifiable homicides:
The killing of a felon by a law enforcement officer in the line of duty.
388

www.fbi.gov...\

The killing of a felon, during the commission of a felony, by a private citizen
198

www.fbi.gov...

So that's our firearms murder statistics. (note, previous years are no better).

So, what I would really like to see is all of these "unknowns" classified AND how many of these firearms used were legal or illegal in the breakdown.

And being American, I think you have no right to express an opinion that will not affect you.

You are disarmed. We are not.

It's an American thing.

For Americans.

ummm once again... via your LINK for the news source.... I saw no mention of GUNSHOT or GUN MURDERS.... you dont need to bold what YOU said... I can see that.

now I just asked you a simple question as to why you used those words in your OP when I could find no mention of it in the linked news source. I certainly did not call you any names or insinuate that you lack intelligence. Whether I was correct or incorrect... a simple answer in response to my question was appropriate.

The way you handled it was uncalled for.

over and out from this thread. carry on
