News are censored, I was in athens at the time when everytihng happened, and I saw the news of my country, the news were talking about students
fighting the police with the support of some parties, but crude reality was that all the greek society was trying to change the things. Finally,
before christmas, they said they were resting for christmas, but things were goin to begin another time after christmas.
The boy was not the only reason, he was only the floating part of the iceberg, the greeks are pretty #ed, with most of the population earning about
700 euros a month, they almost can't live with an economy in wich 150 gr of tuna cost 5 euro, 1 litro of gas it's almost 1 eur (now, but near 1'30
months ago) and the rental of a house is about 400 per month.
Also some corruption scandals, the privatization of the education in a welfare state where education is soicalized, abuse of power from the police,
unemplyment caused by privatizations, local economy destroyed by transnationals, and finally the economical crisis, and a VERY WELL informed
population about subjects like the "debt nature" of the money, and all that economic scary stuff, AND a tradition in university to protest about
those things. Every greek that has done a degree knows for example, the ways of a central bank. In fact, I could see old people picking stones from
the ground to give them to the youngs to throw it to the police.
Finally, at the beggining the media said typical things about riots, but the media haven't said anything about the shoting to a police car o the
rocket launched to the USA consulate. That's the way to stop a revolution: talk at the begining, when the riots are little riots, so the population
will know that you inform about "unconvenient" things, and they will trust you, and finally forget it, so people will thing that everything is ok
before revelion feelings grow in other nearby countries. Really, TV in my country was showing news about christmas # while the greeks were shooting to
the police.
