Iran bans activists from fighting Israel

www.jpost.com

"I thank the pious and devoted youth who have asked to go to Gaza ... but it must be noted that our hands are tight in this arena," Khamenei said on state television. He did not elaborate about what efforts Iran would take to help Hamas in other ways.

The student groups claim that more than 70,000 people throughout Iran have registered as volunteer suicide bombers since Israel launched Operation Cast Lead.

It seems Iran is smartening up. Pfew!! It seems Iran's supreme leader has reigned in the President and his hard line efforts to stir the pot.
The article seems to hint that Ahmadinejad's anti-Western rhetoric has done more harm than good for Iran.
I would expect he will lose all possibility of winning a second term now that he has been publicly spanked.

either that, or its all just a smoke screen so they look like the good guys for the time being. I dont trust any of the crap that comes out of their mouth. If they really wanted to stay out of it, they would just stay out of it and keep their mouths shut. Same thing going on with us, our leaders say they dont want anything to do with it, but we all know damn well thats a lie.

...why wouldn't they just volunteer to become an army, rather than specifically suicide bombers??

Actually, telling these volunteers not to fight with Hamas is more likely an attempt to keep these volunteers in Iran just incase the West does take military action against Iran. If there wasn't so much sabre rattling going on between the U.S. and Iran, many of these volunteers would most likely be on their way to Gaza.

Because then they'd actually have to something more complicated than pressing a button, which is way beyond their dexterity skills, and a main reason why they require foreign assistance to accomplish anything of accomplishment in their country.

I dunno... do you own a Merkava tank? F-18's?

I doubt those volunteers do either... and you're hardly going to put a dent in Israels forces trying to stand toe to toe with them without heavy weaponry.

... unless you appear harmless and hide a bomb.

That's why.

Suicide bombers (at least in Israeli-Palestinian conflict) were mainly used against civilian Israeli population. That hardly goes to work driving Merkava or F-18???? - even Israeli air force does not have that one.

Well these 70,000 Activists would become 70,000 Dead activits if they started anything with Israel. I mean can't they see Israel aint the type of people you wanna fu*k with!

Anyway if these people did do anyhing to Israel it would just give Israel and America the excuse to start soemthing with Iran.

Simple deniablity. Iranians can kill Israelis without fear of reprisals because these guys are "volunteers" which means they went on their own accord and not approved by the leaders of Iran.

I'm sure he has the best interests of the Israeli people at heart.

Either that or he doesn't want amateurs mixing in the fight with his regular soldiers serving in Gaza.........

It's not even the lack of Tanks, Fighter Jets, or serious small arms that make that impossible, but the lack of transport.

How do you get 70,000 people from point a to point b, when point b is a heavily defended border to boot? It's a logistical transport capability that makes a military even more formidable than it's fire power. If you can't get them there in mass, close to all at once, and securely, you could have a million people willing to fight and it would do them no good.

Iran is just covering their behinds. They put out a statement that Arab countries need to stop Israel. Then it's reported that 70,000 Iranian students volunteer to carry out suicide bombings on Israel. So if one of these 70,000 kills somebody in Israel what dose that make Iran? Hint, hint... It's not a the freedom fighter I'm sure some of you were thinking. Think about a real world modern times term.

Real talk, Iran cannot publicly support any real action against Israel.

Weapons would not be a problem. And if they were, I'm sure the Americans do some great deals. They supply everyone else, so why not Iran...

...and if the crusaders managed it, then modern Iran can too.
