Disney Cruise - Not just for kids...

You know, a while back, I went on a Disney Cruise...and when I tell most people, they assume I have kids. I don't (stepchildren that don't live with me, but in essence, no kids)....

Thing is, neither my wife nor I are gamblers, so the casinos on normal cruise ships hold no interest for us. In addition, Disney simply does everything above and beyond... And for me, the Disney ships closely resemble the ocean vessels of old in many design features, and remind me more of the Titanic, etc. in look and feel.

The rooms are also bigger, and nicer.

Thing is, they have many "adult only" areas. At dinners, we were even seated with other adults travelling sans children, so we were with like-minded people.

They even have their own private island in the Bahamas (Castaway Cay), which even has an adult only beach. However, for us, the coolest part of the island (other than the Flying Dutchman anchored in the water, used for the Pirates movies) was the lagoon, where they had lots of things sunk there making snorkelling a really fun event...things like sunken boats with a Mickey figurehead, etc.

The adult nightclub was fun, and we really got to know the entertainment directors well. The food was always great, and Palo's was the best (it's a separate small fee, and is a gourmet restaurant you can go to one evening, but it isn't advertised much....you have to just walk into the nightclub area in the morning when you first get on board, and sign up, as they go quick). You also have rotational dining, going to the different restaurants on board, each night.

The shows are top notch, and often win cruise awards each year for the best productions.

I know I sound like a commercial, but after hearing of some bad experiences from others on normal lines like Carnival or Royal Carribean, I can honestly say that Disney didn't disappoint, in any way....

It isn't just for kids, and is a refreshing break from the overrun frat house atmosphere of some cruise ships....

I'm wanting to take the wife on a cruise and wasn't even considering Disney.

I just loved the feel of the ships....felt more like being on an ocean liner than other cruise lines (and seemed a lot less crowded)...

As long as I don't have to deal with Mickey Mouse actin' a fool and dancing around my table while we're trying to eat dinner, I wouldn't have a problem with a Disney cruise (no kids here too).

I'd hate to have to smack Mickey around a little bit and have all the kids in the dining room start crying.

Nope. Dinner was a nice and conservative affair, and we were seated with other couples sans children...
