I see millitary jets fly over me all the time. It's really pretty cool, but why does it merit a thread?

On christmas eve there were F-14s and F-16s flying over our house here in Chicago all day, it was awesome! We think we also saw a B-2, but weren't sure because it was getting pretty dark. It did have the wing shape, but was really high up. Made me wonder, though, what a stealth bomber would be doing flying over the midwest.

Maybe the bomber was doing a training exersise??

There are many airforce bases in the mid west.

Shattered OUT...

They fly over me everyday. All kinds: Harriers, C130s, C5s, T-38s, helicopters, fighter jets, and more. Pretty exctting to watch and see them doing runs.

I live a few miles from the poconoes and I see really messed up stuff flying around all the time...... the poconoes would be a good place to hide something...

I live in central pennsylvania right now and the only military presence I've seen happened one day last semester. Two AH-64 Appachie Helicopters fully loaded crusied over the downtown district of my area at about 150-200 feet. It was loud as a ma #a, but I was used to it.

Back home in South Carolina I live in an area with Hunter Army Airfield, Marine Core Air Station Beaufort and Parris Island basic training ground. Also A naval hospital and Coast Guard.

Every day at least twice a helicopter from the coast guard will cruise up and down the beach in front of my house at about 50-80 feet. Super low. I can look out of the window on my top floor and actually look down on it on occasion. Other than that we get Apache's fully loaded cruising the coastline from HAA. We also get C-5's on their way to MCASB.

The worst part about living where I live is that F-18's from MCAS think that its alright to go supersonic over the Atlantic. Unfortunately (in this case) I live right on the beach so when the light it up it's usually a mile or so inland. I don't need to tell you that a sonic boom causes quite a shockwave. I don't know how many time's # has fallen off the shelf. Anyways, I see an F-18 at least 3 times a day and sonic booms are felt maybe once or twice a week. Thank god we live on the beach otherwise property values would be #.

Well I'm out here near Area 51 and it's not unusual to see a few Airforce jets 'out and about'. However, yesterday there were a lot more than usual. This was happening all day long. Wonders what those boys are up to now?

I was watching some weird stuff last week.

Two military helicopters came from the North, heading South.

They were joined by another which took up position due West. The first two choppers then carried on Southwards and hovered for a while until another aircraft appeared from the South, flying South-North.

The first two escorted this last aircraft along its flight trajectory. The one due West joined them and all four continued North until they disappeared from view.

I wonder what that was all about ?

Still when you're a civilian who doesn't know/care too much, living a good 20 miles from the nearest base like me, the #s still cool. Standing in a parking lot on an island in the middle of nowhere and seeing a hornet pull a flyby at 2 hundred feet is something to behold.

Don't give me any crap about pilots obeying "rules" they fly as low and definately as fast as they want using their own discretion. Bastards, but cool bastards nonetheless.
