Governments across Europe declared states of emergency and ordered factories to close as Russia cut all gas supplies through Ukraine yesterday in their worsening dispute over unpaid bills.

José Manuel Barroso, the European Commission President, accused the two countries of taking the EU’s energy supply “hostage” amid a cold snap across the Continent, and urged them to reopen the pipelines immediately.

Better than being the playground bully like the US, or even worse the annoying, mouthy little kid who stands next to the bully all the time and eventually cries like a little girl when he eventually gets his arse kicked when big Bully isn't looking.

But enough of this horseplay. The US have been raping countries for oil for years, so don't think Russia are alone in this matter. Besides it was going to happen one day....

How is this "giving them the attention they require?" If you don't pay the bills, the service gets cut off. Sure, the timing of the cutoff can be seen as Russia trying to tilt negotiations in its favor, but a merchant is allowed to raise the price of service as it sees fit. ESPECIALLY if it has a monopoly on that service. That is why it is important to not rely on one supplier to provide what you need just as investors must diversify their portfolio to help protect against loss in one industry.

Yeah, the bought and paid for press will blame russia because UKRAINE doesn't pay it's bills.

Ukraine is stealing gas from the pipelines that goes throught their country... then they whine when Russia cuts the supply so they won't get their gas stolen...

PAY OR develop your own energy production system.

the gas flow was reduced last week by 63 million cu/m a day - the portin of the gass supply for ukraine - the remaining gas flow is for customers in europe

so , as the company gazprom are owed over $2 billion , like anyone who doesn`t pay there gas bill over a length of time , ignorning the demands to pay - its cut off.


so how is this russia demanding attention? i do understand they are trying to inrease gas flow in other pipes to try and compensate.

We , the World have had various other forms of power to supply heating ( free energy devices and such like) but the Governments and money grabbers have kept that technology from being pursued and developed into a viable public / consumer choice.
They want us to keep buying fossil fuels , polluting the Planet but still paying for the priviledge of doing it.
They wont supply free energy devices because they dont make as near as much much as they do with fossil fuels.
SO when a country cuts off the supply and people freeze to death who's really to blame?
Those that want to keep the supplies going ?
Those that don't pay the bills ontime ?
Those that cut off the supplies ?
Or those that dont release free energy to the public ?

I didnt know they were in such debt, nor did I know Urkaine was syfin gas from the pipe lines either.

Who is to blame? The party that is using the gas but refusing to pay for it. Russia only shut off Ukraine's gas, and continued to supply gas for all other European customers. It is Ukraine that shut off the actual pipeline out of spite.

Soon to be very cold too. It looks like their innitial reports of having 3-months worth of gas saved up were false. Ukrainian customers are already suffering major shortages. Maybe Daddy Europe will keep it warm.

$2 billion is only one part of the dispute. Another part, and perhaps a more serious one, is that Ukraine and Gasprom have not agreed to the supply contract and prices for 2009.

Money is not so much of an issue, as Ukrainian government refusing to accept responsibility. They have the money to pay, but they want to turn this into a circus.

Again - read up on the issue. A bigger problem concerns the 2009 supply contract which has not been renewed because Ukraine objected to the price increase. So even if the $2 billion payment is made, the dispute remains.

It is not some small-time thugs - it is a government-backed energy oligarchy that is trying to turn this into a PR stunt.

If you ype in 'free energy' in google you'll get websites and information on free energy making machines , the produce power more efficiently than they use, devices like this are suppressed from teh public because theres no money to made from them for the power suppliers that sell oil, gas and coal.
