it defintally didnt get left behind, it stayed on them like really bright lights, at first i thought it was on fire but then the light disappeared, and i doubt they would be dropping flares tho cause it was in a very close together community

The only other thing I can think of, that makes sense within context is some sort of temporary engine flameout. But to have something like that on both wings, simultaneously, very very remote chance.

Any chance it was an aerial refueling exercise with fighters and a KC-10? The fighters might be quite hard to see, and the refueling boom lights might be bright if seen from a particular angle....
